Are you looking for sites in English? If so, that's why you're not finding them, as there isn't that much demand for accommodation in rural areas from people who don't speak/read Japanese.
If you are looking for sites in Japanese but not finding them, that would be odd... |

That makes complete sense, it's only the JETs who tend to live there! The website provided in an earlier post was handy, though completely in Japanese.
I wasn't so much looking at rural areas, as areas other than Tokyo. Though again, those sites are probably in Japanese, oh well.  |

Well yeah, they sure do. It's possible to find properties for rent in pretty much any rural area and town. The price is listed along with a full description and plenty of photos. |
Perhaps I should have worded the question differently, to add "sites in a foreign language".

I went to a JET presentation today, and guess what they said?
EVERY SITUATION IS DIFFERENT!!
So it's some sort of mantra, then. It's hard to fathom that your individual situation is unique to your contracting organisation; you've just got to hope that you strike it lucky.
Around a third of all applicants receive placements each year it seems, and we were told that the number of enquiries suggests a much higher level of interest than previous years. Viva La Recession!! |

ESID is nothing new for people on the JET program. Posters on this site have been saying that for decades.
What sort of answers do you want? If there is no specific 100% black and white answer, the best you can get is a general average or the ESID mantra, depending on circumstances.

That doesn't mean there are more jobs. In fact, if you look at the public figures from the JET pamphlet, you'll see there are fewer. So, enthusiasm counts for nothing. |

I have looked at the figures, and it is clear that numbers have fallen, for whatever reason. Not too sure about your comment about enthusiasm, I never said I was enthusiatic at all.  |
