So, chill out, think hard about it, and go to place that you get the best vibe from. In the end remember all three of the countries are in close proximity. Moving from one to the other isn't that big of a deal.

Yup, that's what I did. I think of China and I SEE Yangshuo! It was alwys the place where I could find what I needed, a relaxed, easy going lifestyle filled with beauty and wonder on a modest budget.

Glad I convinced you Adam - welcome!

There has been some skepticism with regard to my pay etc - so allow me to explain. I have a bachelor's degree and an ESL certificate. It may help that I was a full-time English teacher back home for 3 years. This is my second gig in China. Initially, I was on 10,000RMB, a year later I'm on 12,000 + free apartment. I also live in a second tier city - wouldn't save as much in SH or BJ.

12,000 a month still only comes to $1,700, not $2,000, and that's before any bills or food. Do you do privates as well?

I think it's safe to say that BlingCosa is a TROLL, or just terrible at math(s). If he was doing privates he should/would have already mentioned them when he told us about his work schedule... so I'm guessing troll.. Crying or Very sad

One final question: Can you get a job at OMEIDA in Yangshuo WHILE IN china? I kind of want to take a short trip to China first as a fact finding mission, and wonder if I would need to return to the States adn go BACK to be employed there. Or if I can just apply and begin my term while already there on a Tourist Visa.

Bringing this to attention.

You can also easily vagabond around after teaching as well. Save some money in a place like Korea and you can easily travel around Southeast Asia for 3-4 months before you go back. Nice way to live Smile

Bumping once again. It's important because, during my trip, I may decide I just want to stay on and teach for a year. If I cant do thaat, obviously, I have to return to the States and do it from there.

If you are not doing it until next summer you might want to try a six week contract with Aston for starters. They have been offering six week summer contracts.

Adam,

All you have to do is walk down the street in Yangshuo and you'll be offered jobs. Check out "Bar 99." A bunch of laowai hang out there for their liquid lunch and you'll be set. I believe the owner is from OZ.

Go to the street parallel to West Street. When walking down West St. from the top it'll be to your left. Don't be afraid to go down some alley in order to get there. Nice hotels on those alleys. Check out "The Alley Bar" or something like that too. A few guys from Israel run it.

Whatever you do, DO NOT stay at "Lisa's Guesthouse". I read about it in 'The Lonely Planet Guide Book' and went there. The 1st night I had to bang on the door at 2am to get in. The 2nd night I was tired. The 3rd night they wouldn't let me in and I slept on a bench outside "Bar 99". I checked-in to a better place later that morning just around the corner from "Bar 99" on some alley.

Thank God "Bar 99" sells breakfast.

Good Luck!
