Shes doing one called Working With Wikipedias Global Education Program, which sounds very interesting. So far, just titles on the website and not descriptions, but I have a pretty good idea of which workshops to take (and not take, I dont have a hip flask, hehe). Just kidding, Greg! |

|
|
I had hoped to go to the MEXTESOL event on Saturday and was planning to pay at the door. Anyone else with that intention should be aware that there is a notice posted on the MEXTESOL site that the preregistration sold out, so no tickets will be sold at the door. I had really wanted to go... It never occurred to me it would sell out... Any suggestions ?? |

I just learned of this today, and I didn't pre-register.
I'll go anyway and see if they'll let me in as I'm already a member. I didn't think they could sell-out either. |

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, Guy. I have just been in contact with a friend who works as a consultant in the national MEXTESOL office. He told me that the local chapter, the sponsor of the conference, has closed registration for this event, and even he, a former president of both the local chapter and the national organization, cannot get someone into the conference. If you have not pre-registered, there is no way you'll be able to attend, whether or not you're a member. |

What an amazing lack of planning! I did pre-register, just because there is a Banamex close to where I live, but I usually pay at the door, since I don't always know till close to the event if I am going to be able to attend or not. |

Apartently it has to do with the space they arranged for the event. The venue management will not allow more than 250 people.
In my experience organzing events, even when people have to pay in advance, some will not turn up. But you never know whether or not they might turn up half way through, so it's not a good idea to give away their space. |

Right! But not sure why anyone would be suprised by this. MEXTESOL is not known for their planning or organizational skills. Think of the professional TEFLer's in Mexico City who will now be ubable to attend due to lack of planning. |

Indeed. Lack of planning on their part by not pre-registering for the event. |

That certainly applies to me...I just procrastinated on it as I was super busy the last two weeks.
The last regional was at UVM, with lots of space. Still, I don't think they had even 200 people come then. They've done something right if they managed to get 250 sign-ups beforehand. I follow them on facebook and primarily connect with other members there but strangely the event listing doesn't have many FB attendees (compared to past events anyway).
Greg, you're involved in the organization there...what's different this year? |
