Thank you for the detail...this is your first photo ID card then?
I'm wondering what they do for a renewed card...if they can re-use the photos and/or the card itself. I imagine not since it is quite poorly constructed and has an expiry date printed on it. |

No, I have an INAPAM photo ID and my old FM3 has a photo.
Your question about what will happen next year when I have to renew my visa is a good one, and one for which I have no answer. I'll have to wait and see what happens next year at this time. |

That's available for download from the website too. I recommend doing that, paying and getting copies of the receipts before making the trip to Immigration because a) that Scotiabank close to Migra is usually busy, and b) copies are more expensive in that street! |

I was going to download that document but wasn't sure how to fill it out, and in years past it was always available at INM. The Scotiabank near INM was almost empty, and I was out of there in two minutes! |

There must be some people here coming up to their first renewal of the card as it started in April 2010. Watch this space...
(Hopefully my first renewal will be the INMIGRADO card, so a new card altogether) |

How is that different from the FM2 and FM3? Are the requirements different, or what? I am fairly familiar with the FM3 from having gone to Migration to translate for a number of people, a little less so with the FM2, but dont know much, ok, really anything, about this category. |

It's what you can get after 5 years of an FM2 (or Inmigrante Card, DL!) Basically it means you are a permanent resident (not citizen) and don't have to bother with the trip to immigration (and the payment!) every year. |

Looks like a big shake-up is forthcoming after yesterday's firings of 7 corrupt regional Immigration Directors. The job of cleaning up the inside of these offices looms large, now.

Regional directors were replaced along a wide swath where migrant smuggling and allegations of rights abuses run rampant: the states of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Oaxaca, Mexico, San Luis Potosi and Quintana Roo. |

I went this morning to pick up my new visa card. It was actually ready a week ago, but I didn't understand the message on the INM website: apparently, Presentarse en una oficina del INM means it's ready to be picked up. The process went super fast for me: I took in all my documentation and photos on a Friday and it was ready the following Monday!
Anyway, I stood in the Express pickup line for a few minutes, showed the Comprobante de Registro de Solicitud to one of the clerks, was told the visa was ready, waited a few more minutes till my name was called, signed my name on three different pieces of paper, smeared two thumbprints on another, and waited just a few seconds till I was handed my new visa, hot off the presses and almost too hot to handle!
This was my third renewal of what is now called No Inmigrante-Visitante visa. After one more renewal, what type will I be able to apply for? |

Another one of the same, or an Inmigrante visa (old FM2). More expensive, but sets you on the path to the day you can wave INM bye-bye (more or less). |

That got me a bit worried! It was showing that on my record, but above it still said the matter was unresolved - so I went with heavy heart wondering what I'd done wrong. Nothing to worry about. It's great that Mexico's government departments are up-to-date with technology, but it's not always reliable! |

I don't know if unreliable technology is the problem. It's more a matter of opaque bureaucratic language. When I checked the website to see if my visa was ready, at the top of the page it said Resolucin: Sin Resolucin, and I thought it wasn't ready yet. Maybe to INM Sin Resolucin means that the applicant hasn't returned to sign the last pieces of paper and give fingerprints, so the card can be issued. Just an idea . . . |
