oops, sorry about taxi, but didnt it run into the '80s?
What about Night Rider, Greatest American Hero, and I know that you are going to hate this one ... The Dukes of Hazard!!! I never missed an episode !
And, dont forget Phil Collins - anything by him in the '80s was great! |

Dear schely10,
Knight Rider?? The Dukes of Hazard??? Ohmygod - I'm beginning to regret picking out "Taxi" and "Cheers" from your list.
Regards,
John |

I knew most would disagree with those
But, unfortunately, I loved them. Mind you, I was very young back then. |

| The key is to not go back and watch these shows again as you will realize how hokey they really are. Live with the nostalgia and you will always remember the '80s as a decaded that rocked! |

How many seasons did Dukes run anyway? In retrospect, it's amazing the mileage they managed from milking the same idea of Boss Hogg and Roscoe planting moonshine in the General Lee every episode.

| I agree. I will just live on the memories. Im sure if I watched one of those episodes today, Id shoot myself! I was not able to appreciate good tv until the late '80s, early '90s when I reached my 20s. |

I - ahem - was a Marvel comic buff so to me, The Incredible Hulk was fine poetic drama.

Anybody remember That's Incredible or Real People?
How about commercials. Messy Marvin Hershey's Chocolate Syrup commercials? Messy Marvin was later a regular on one of the above mentioned shows, I think.
I think shows from the late seventies are valid. Wasn't one of the hallmarks of growing up in the 80's living in the shadow of the 60's and 70's? |

Magnum P.I.
What a great show. The car was fantastic and Magnum was the envy of every guy. |

"I was there, Magnum!" We used to say this a lot in Cambodia, to make fun of people who boasted about the thrills and spilled blood they had seen. "I was there" is a frequently heard boast in the cafes of Phnom Penh...

Yeah, I remember "Real People."
I think "Common People" would have been more accurate, or perhaps "Weird People" or "Unfortunate Poor People."
What a load of exploitative tat! No that things are any better now, I guess. It was a kind of Reality precursor, wasnt it? |

[quote]--"My Sherona" by the Knack (God, what a stupid song)
--"Blinded by the light/wrapped up like a douche" (what's that supposed to mean?) [quote]
HELL-O, My Sharona the long version, has one of the greatest guitar solos in history.
And it's "revved up like a douce." Obviously an incredible metaphor. Douche is really not a word you hear in rock songs, no? And wrapped ????!!! I think not.
By the way, Kennedy said he was a jelly doughnut, not a sausage.
Oh, the folly of youthful teachers! |

Actually, I'm not sure I remember any of the actual content of Real People. I just remember it being one of our family entertainment staples. Probably was lame.
And then there were the nights I begged to stay up a little past my bedtime to watch CHiPs.
Or Chuck Norris, David Carradine, anyone? Actually I was never a fan, but from talking to other guys of similar age, they left a lasting impression. A number of people I know interested in Eastern philosophy in a serious way got their start with Kung Fu. |

I can't remember it. Is this hyperbole or sarcasm, jud? I'd hate to listen to that little ditty once more for no payoff.
