Yeah, I am quite content here in NZ for the most part. Especially since I got out of that dungheap Auckland. A lot of Kiwis feel that New Zealand begins south of the Bombay Hills.
Lord of the Rings? I haven't seen any of it nor have I read the books. The fantasy genre isn't my cup of cha. |

What do I miss ? Well I have reached the stage that when I go back to my native Scotland I feel like a foreign tourist.
When I am away from my adopted homeland of Bulgaria I miss the sidewalk cafes where you can sit and look at the world go by (and lech at the ladies !)
And Bulgarian tomatoes. And yoghurt. And people shaking their head to indicate yes and nodding to indicate no.

I just could not believe the different types of CHEESE I found in Shanghai when I was there last week. I spent over 100 yuan on cheese altogether - even got some from Australia. You cannot buy any cheese here at all and I had not had any for 6 months (cheese either).
I also bought a DVD player in Shanghai as I am fed up with CCTV9 and no other English channels. Now at least I can watch a decent movie occasionally. |

I've been vacationing in the States for a few weeks now (heading back to Japan tomorrow), so I've stocked up on just about everything that I have missed. Yay! I should be OK for a while now--I've got plenty of toiletries whose labels I can read, vegan chocolate and snacks, and loads of random impulse buys that just fell into my basket as I shopped. And I even got a friend, with absolutely no coercion or begging whatsoever on my part, to offer to mail me my favorite cookies.

Being able to talk in my normal accent
My mum's corned beef and potato pies
Carpets
Live Football/Soccer (found some good net links lately though )
It gets better through time though. Even in a backwater city like Luoyang I can now get real bread, muffins, emmental cheese, tuna and european biscuits/cookies.
I felt a bit guilty yesterday spending what it would take most locals 2 weeks to earn on cheese, tuna and biscuits. Worth it though

Having recenlty taken a train trip, I miss:
no smoking cars.
Shinkansens (Japan's bullet trains)
anonymity.
And still Tim Horton's.
And coffee. |

When I was in Ecuador, I missed Italian food. To my horror, tomato sauce in Ecuador meant catsup. Blech.
When I was in Japan, I missed beans and peanut butter. But I did enjoy a lot of the food there. Now that I'm back in America, I miss all the different varieties of tofu and have to visit my Asian market in town to get tofu and Pocky.
I live in Louisiana now, and really miss the bagels that I grew up with in NY!
I always find, however, that there is a weath of new things in each place that I really do enjoy. You can't beat the music in South Louisiana - and Mardi Gras is coming up, so les bon temps roule! |

We never used to call it Uni until everyone at Uni started watching Neighbours
