Hello ESLman:

I know you didn't have a great time with the CELTA course but one thing did surprise me about what you wrote in the first post. You mentioned that you expected some grammar instruction, perhaps on the more difficult areas, while in the CELTA. It's interesting to hear you say that because we were told that our 'CELTA school' does NOT teach Grammar to us. Prep, if required / as we see fit, is up to us. Perhaps your school didn't 'warn' you well enough in advance?!

I think half of the success of the CELTA comes from the information we receive during the interview, how much research we do before the course and the prep work we think we need to do beforehand. My school literally told me that I will not have a life for 30 days. Most likely just one day or afternoon / week, off. With lesson plans, lang analysis, material for class and sourcing, daily review of notes and topics/concepts, and written assignments.
Wink
It was soooo true (!!) AND that you really should read the recommended book(s) before the course start date.
Each school is quite different,... as I can see! Each school seems to have different access to materials and services / photocopying etc. Each school also has a different schedule. Mine for example, finished ALP before the day's lesson was to be taught. Meaning our VERY detailed (400 words+) hand written plans for that day was on our minds, then before the lesson we had to plan, in ALP, for the next day's lesson... ...teach 'today's' lesson, then go home and work on tomorrow's lesson plan - lang analysis plus written assignments etc etc.

I also know that being able to pick out the helpful information and ignore the rest of the gibberish that goes on during the CELTA is really helpful as well.
...My personal opinion / experience.

Luck to you, ESLman!
Very Happy

Pollux, don't judge a book by its cover.
Do you not recognise the avatar?

My point exactly. Eslman might turn out to be a great teacher even though he might not seem to be one based on his ability to get through some silly CELTA course.

But you're right, an avatar, a name, or signature has nothing to do with the person behind it.
