And there is disdain among the Mexican community of those who "pass for white" and live like white, so to speak. If their skin is so light they 'pass for white' they try as hard as they can to act and live as culturally "Mexican" as possible, living down all the stereotypes, especially the negative ones. You never see the dark-skinned ones up in the States or here in Canada and speaking only Spanish and refusing to learn English like the stereotypical ones in all the places you see on the news. All of the bad stereotypes you see on the news - those are the light-skinned ones trying hard not to be mistaken for white. Gringo is the worst thing you can call someone who's actually Mexican. Or any Latin-American country, for that matter, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Honduran, Costa Rican, etc. They all hate gringos.

To be honest I haven't encountered that in Mexico. There is a cultural and class difference between the lighter skinned Mexicans and darked skinned ones. Am I allowed to say Spanish descent and Indigenous? What's PC today? Idea

Generally, the lighter the skin, the more wealthy they are, the more likely they are to speak English. I've found this in Mexico and Chicago anyway.

In Mexico those of Spanish descent tend to isolate themselves from the rest of society, and live like...umm...well is Santa Fe more like an affluent US city, or like Tepito??

And you talk about stereotypes, good and bad, and then claim they all hate gringos... Question

Yeah uh... it kinda sounds like someone is talking out their hind-end.

I've not encountered those things in Mexico nor in Costa Rica... I've also never noticed that light-skinned Hispanic people have to go out of their way to enact negative stereotypes... I think those types of actions are very much played out on the individual level. Perhaps to you a light skinned latino acting in that way catches your attention more than a dark-skinned latino because you don't expect it... who knows. Your observations definitely don't sound like those of an anthropologist or sociologist...

The whole "they all hate gringos" observation is completely off base as well. Maybe they hate gringos like you who don't know what the **** they're talking about. I suggest you do a little learning and then reevaluate the things you've said... or maybe you should come down to Latin America with an open mind and a little Spanish under your belt... then you can tell us if everyone hates all gringos... and yes, gringo includes Canucks, francophone or not.
