Monty,
You think people have kids so they can power over them? That is such a sad view, it is almost not worth commenting on. Believe me, there is a lot easier ways.

So that's why we are all teachers right? So we can give out homework and tests and make life miserable for students. If you said that about teachers, than everyone would call you nuts. Of course there are all kinds of terrible people in all walks of life. The one point I do agree with you is your last sentence when you say you aren't qualified for being a parent.

Personally i think you've failed as a human being if you're too alike your parents.

So if you have great role models as parents, you're screwed you say? I want to be a role model to mine, so do you have any wise advice for me?

monty,
nobody should condemnb you for maligning "selfish" parents who want to re-create themselves in baby pieces. I understand your reasoning, but I don't share it.
It may be noble for you to support others' kids through charities, but it does not compare to actually raising one. To be constantly in charge of one's own progeny is a responsability rather than a mere financial burden. And in the process, you may grow mentally and psychologically.
I am saying this although I have no child of my own. However, two of my recent partners had a daughter each. The quality of the relationship between them and me was enhanced through this fact rather than negatively influenced (although, to be honest, in the first case there was some kind of rejection of me by the girl for some time). At the end of the day, a triangular relationship tested my endurance a lot more, and taught me much. Today, I can say I have benefitted from these experiences and my attitude to children has been modified.
I am glad it did - because my own mother bore me and my sister out of purest selfishness and no charity at all!

As for the "sexual equality" comment (you didn't really think I'd let that go, did you? ), I don't think buying someone a drink makes you a chauvanist. However, most women these days are used to buying their own drinks and have no problem doing so. They might even buy one for a cute guy in the bar. Do men not like this type of "equality"? As for actual dates, I go by the rule of 'the one who does the asking does the paying'.

Personally, I like the "drink system" here in the west (or, more specifically, the states, as I should not assume this system applies to all western countries). What is the "drink system"? Well, if you go out with a woman and she insists on buying her own drinks (or taking turns buying rounds), she is only interested in you as a friend. If she allows you to buy her drinks, she is most likely interested in more than a platonic relationship (unless, of course, she is an "old-fashioned" type of lady). At least thats how I *think* the system works here...of course, I don't pretend to understand women, so I might be completely off base Wink

Cheers,
Kirk

Though I wanted them...really did...
Dated a guy who had 2...loved them with all my heart..our breakup killed me...not becausue of him (tosser) but because of the kids.
I like kids when they are old enough to talk to me...the crying is minimal and the drooling is almost done.

That said, the sound of a crying baby sends me into fits. Leave them at home, put a soother in their mouths...SOMETHING. Rolling Eyes

Give me teenagers and their attitude any day. Evil or Very Mad

My grade 3 teacher did not have kids and I always wondered how a 'teacher' would not want kids of her/his own. NOW>....I know. Twisted Evil
