Jeez, I suggest you cut down a bit. Except for the Russian diet - properly accompanied by the right kind of vodka, it could do wonders for your душа, which appears to be distinctly lacking at the moment...

Cut down on what exactly? Diversity? Eating out?

As to lacking anything, I think I'll keep my 'soles' exactly where they are, firmly on the ground. Cool

Speaking of curry..Does anyone know if any of the curry ru's are msg free? If so which ones? They are gosh darn tasty, yet, many have some ingredients I'd like to avoid.

Tips from me, although I'm not in Tokyo.

1) Meat. Fish. Noodles. Pasta. Rice. Vegetables. Surely you don't really need to read Japanese to recognise these. Boil the pasta/rice/noodles, and cut up and fry meat/fish and veggies in a pan and add herbs/spices/whatever. This is pretty much all I eat, every day, and I love it.

2) Experiment. If you're not sure what something is, perhaps try it anyway. Trial and error is how we learn.

3) Make friends with a Japanese person or someone who speaks/reads Japanese, or just someone who's lived there a while, and ask them very nicely to come shopping with you.

Any of the supermarkets (Seiyu, Foodworld, Jusco etc) should have all these things, as well as some simple instant noodles, cereal, bread, cakes, eggs, cheese, pizza etc etc...
