We'll have to agree to disagree. I have to say that I agree with most of his post... including that sentence.

Too bad.
It's not an issue of negative vs. positive, or it shouldn't be. When I come to this forum I'm looking for facts-truths-regarding experiences with employers. If they happen to be negative, then so be it.
It doesn't help for people to wax eloquently in generalities, e.g. if we just have the "right" attitude then everything is going to be OK.
Just the facts, ma'am.

Thank you Ositolectur for posting your experience in spite of the fact that you would encounter ridicule in doing so. I, too, posted to warn others, not to get involved in a worn-out philosophical discussion about positive and negative posts. It is obvious that all of us who worked for ELS/A'Sharqiyah University have had horrible experiences and have no need to embellish nor make-up falsehoods to discredit the place. These are our personal experiences, plain and simple. |

Thank you Myrrh for your supportive comment. And that reminds me to say what I didn't in my first post: I neglected to acknowledge the many helpful suggs and kind gestures of my fellow teachers while there without whom I'd not been able to endure. While not a very cohesive group -- an understatement-- individually almost all the teachers were ready to sympathize and commiserate, happy to share ideas/tips, and keen to offer a ride or run an errand. That they would do so in spite of the constant stress, uncertainty, frustration, anger, and overall wickedness of the place and situation says much about their innate character. Thank you.
Lastly, my heart goes out to the capable teachers and few --- too few--- students who were sincere and hard working and who really wanted to leverage their English into a better life. They, above all, deserved far better than they received. |

I agree and am reminded of the Gen.F."Pancho" Villa quote :
"Que dos y dos sean necesariamente cuatro, es una opinion que muchos compartimos. Pero si alguien sinceramente piensa
otra cosa, que lo diga. Aqui no nos asombramos de nada."
Roughly,
" That two and two are necessarily four, is an opinion that many share. But if someone sincerely thinks differently, they should say it. Here we are not shocked by anything." |

I have yet to hear even one positive comment about ASU.
Only excuses for the 'inexcusable' institution in question have been forthcoming from the usual 'corporate shills'.
No further comment is really needed. |
