Mexicans just ask:
WHY did YOU take HALF of OUR land?
Invade OUR country?
And treat our migrants like $%&?

Sounds very uncharacteristic of Mexicans, at least adults. I assume you heard this with your kids?

Anyone know of a Peruvian place in Mexico City to put this little competition to a test? A little deep fried guinea pig? Laughing I can't think of another dish from Peru.

1st, Yes in colegios and sometimes even with adults. Whatever.

2nd question:

http://www.mankora.com/

Get the weekend buffet. Pricy but well worth it.

"Mexican food isnt anything great either, not like it is made out to be. Most of the real Mexican food is not at all appetizing. Stomach lining soup anybody? Most Mex places in the US serve a handful of dishes cause those are the only ones that are any good, at least to the taste of most Gringos. Guess those brain, tongue and eyeball tacos havent caught on yet..."

ahhh c'mon! the brain tongue and eyeballs are the best parts!! I find people warm up to it if they don't know what it is. A few taco trucks around here in washington state serve tacos de lengua, and I gave it to a co-worker telling him it was just tender beef, and he loved it. when i told him it was cow tongue he couldn't believe it, but trust me, he's a believer now.

I agree with you about all the tex mex in the US; none of that is the real deal. I guess where we diverge in opinion is our taste for the authentic stuff south of the border. Personally, I would love to be able to get chilequiles in the morning again here in washington, but nobody does it. or have guys posted up on the street corners selling ridiculously cheap tamales. I do however prefer to leave the tripa outside of my pozole, but damn i love that pozole too!! And the barbacoa, birria, lengua, cachete Very Happy , cabeza, pastor, etc... i mean, you gotta at least like tacos del pastor right? isn't that the signature DF taco? (could be wrong on this)

anyways, you're right about the lack of international variety. centro in GDL had a ton of chinese restaurants, all of them equally terrible. note to self: never get chinese in mexico.

Oh, my, you've met some disgruntled Mexicans. It's been my experience that many people in Mexico are well aware that a government's actions do not reflect the sentiment of the people.

I think I would just giggle if someone asked me those questions. I have been told that the US has no real culture, thoughby a 16 year old.

I honestly don't think the poster is going to have to worry about people casting him/her mean glances and being interrogated on every street corner about US policy.

Tacos al pastor & rabe, tacos de canasta, tortas, quesadillas, tamales, sopa de tortilla (aka Azteca), chile relleno, chiles en nogada, coctel de camarones, nopales, huitlacoche, horchata, atole, & fresh tortillas all rank high on Mexican food list.

You guys must have your radars set too high. Even in places like Kimberling City, Missouri and West Branch, Iowa there are authentic Mexican restuarants offering up authentic Mexican cuisine--not always from the regions you are used to. Sure the Menu may be full of Enchiladas de Queso and fajitas, but just ask what the especialdad de la casa is and suddenly the waiter will me telling you his mom is back in the kitchen and her cochinita pibil, corundas, or mixiotes are the best in the world. And I'm not talking Chichi's or Chipotle Grill. I'm talking about the little mom and pop places that have sprung up in every little town in the USA in what used to be a Pizza Hut or something like that. Find them in old downtown or other low rent districts. Kona give me ten mintues in Washington and I will find you three styles of Pozole. You are just not talking to the right people.

Sure. But saying Mexican food in the US amounts to ground beef tacos is like saying McDonald's is an accurate representation of American food.

I experienced this in Mexico City as well. Hopefully S. Korea will be better.

1. Is it hard to find work ?
2. Should I come there first to find work or try to get hired abroad?
3. Will pay cover living expenses minus any heavy partying?
4. Are the people friendly towards foreigners?
5. How dangerous is it really for foreigners?
6. Is it possible to save minus any travel or heavy partying?
7. How hard is it to get a decent apartment and good internet connection?

1. It's not hard to find work. The language schools don't pay enough to live on though and the colegios will have you basically baby sitting not teaching. If you like teaching adults go to the language schools like Harmon Hall or Berlitz. Just be ready to get paid very little.

2. Unfortunately you will need to go to Mexico to find work. Just make sure you have enough savings to get back home when, I mean if, it doesn't work out.

3. Living expenses will be paid but you will be living in a small room somewhere because you won't be able to afford to live in a VERY nice area like Insurgentes Sur. Party? After rent and food you probably won't have much to party with, espeically since you're a newbie. You have to pay your dues first.

4. Some are but most seem to have a dislike for the United States. Trust me...you'll see and FEEL what I'm talking about when you get there.

5. The border is probably VERY dangerous for foreigners and Mexicans alike. In Mexico City you only have to watch for people trynig to rob you. I was in Mexico City for three and a half years with no problems. Just be aware of your surroundings.

6. You'll have a VERY hard time saving in Mexico. If you're LUCKY, after you pay your dues for a while you MIGHT get a good gig but just remember, the good paying jobs have TONS of people applying for them and who knows if you'll get picked or not. Have a savings BEFORE you head to Mexico amigo. Trust me on this one.

7. Not sure about apts but the internet connection I had was fine. Just remember...you need to have a plan on what to do when, I mean if EFL doesn't work out for you in Mexico. can't stress this one enough...bring a NICE nest egg with you. You may need it if you find you can't live on the salaries EFL in Mexico offers. Good luck.
