I get it now. VC reads only one most recent post before replying. That is one way to control reality. Rolling Eyes

Ah! So that's how one can deny claiming that Delta was only a month long course, and also only for management positions...

Final words on this tedious topic.

I have experience in Vietnam. I have a CELTA. You have two options basically in Vietnam. The first is to arrive with an online cert or a cheap, low status cert which will allow you to work in Vietnam. However, you'll be limiting yourself to low quality work, mostly with children on a low hourly rate. You'll need to work at multiple places and put in bulk hours to cobble up enough money to live decently. Our unlettered friend VietCanada is one such person; he does bottom of the barrel work despite having a lot of teaching experience. He has reached the low glass ceiling, and you can feel the pain in his posts - not a happy camper.

The other option is to get a CELTA or equivalent. This will give you the opportunity to teach in different contexts such as YL, teens, General English with adults, Business English, EAP and so on in decent centres. With your growing resume, better jobs will be on the horizon. You can do further study and get a DELTA which will open up even more doors.

When the doors of teaching have been opened due to a CELTA, you'll see VietCanada for what he really is, an imbecile.

I'm just going to repeat what I said in the previous thread which I noticed VietCanada conveniently ignored and throw some nuance:

I have an online cert. I got some good jobs which were not "bottom of the barrel" children gigs, scraping hours. In fact, I was a full-time EAP staff member at my school, paid a regular salary and didn't have to work weekends with numerous vacations - although I did work a like a dog in the week with prepping for my next classes and finding ways to keep things fresh. Before landing this job, I had several promising interviews with other schools where they were discussing possible salaries and such in detail since I could leverage my experience in Japan as well as being a relatively young guy.

However, I know that I got really freaking lucky by arriving at just the right moment and having the right connection to land on my feet. My story may not be the norm and I full well realize that a CELTA is by far the better investment - you have to hustle far less to parlay your experience since you'll have the potential employer asking far fewer questions about your training. Paper talks and companies like paper that gives them quick answers.

BA in Whatever with an Online Cert and no experience? Ehhhh maybe if we really need people.

BA in Linguistics with an Online Cert? Let's give them an interview.

BA in Whatever, CELTA with MA in TESOL? I think we can stop making phone calls and pick this guy up unless they're a total nutter.
