Well the Cricket's back Very Happy

Well done to Ireland for winning the Intercon Cup last week. Well done to the England cricket team for not even doubting that the tour to Pakistan would go ahead and for giving up net practice time to do hospital visits. It shows how much it's appreciated by the number of Pakistanis waving both flags and by the way they showed their appreciation of the English team's performance during the first two days.

Scotland and Ireland's inclusion in the C&G cup next season will also give both valuable experience to take to the West Indies in 2007.

It won't do either any good as they'll both end up last in their groups.

That's probably true but if we all take that line of thinking then what's the point of having all the 32 teams in the football world cup next Summer? Isn't it about celebrating sport? Scotland and Ireland have won positions in the West Indies and I'll support them as well as England. At the end of the day it's the sport and the people involed that make the sport that make it enjoyable. Why would any of us have spent good money following Scotland or Ireland in football or rugby for the last 20 odd years if we had always thought we'd be in the final?

Not if you're an Eng-er-land fan. The World Cup is theirs by right, or so they'd have us believe.

Unusually that wasn't one of the regular sarcastic posts by our northern correspondent. He actually believes it!

No "h" in "sarcasm", Rumble.
My previous posting was based on comments made ad nauseam by my Sasunnach pals, among others. And of course whenever Eng-er-land lose there's the usual scapegoating-post portem featuring rent-an-excuse pundits like Big Ron (he of the n-word).
PS That should have been "Scottish correspondent." By 'eck, "Northern" is used in t' Brit media to refer to t'North of England, like.

Touche. That exlpains everything. Get some pals who don't read the Sun as that's where you must have learned your spelling and stereotypical rantings towards people from south of the border. I've met a few English people like that myself but there are also a few Rangers fans who are not dissimilar (not referring to any of the Hun who post on here).

And I thought Big Ron was your role model! Confused

PS You are a 'northern correspondent'. No one would ever confuse you for being anything other than Scottish.

People from south of de border? You don't mean ... you're not ... not one of them, surely??? Shocked
Rissole, my pals are what you'd call "professionals" - white collar workers. I know they're not your stereotypical Eng-er-landers, but there you are.
Couldn't agree more about hooligan Huns, though. Notice how so many wave the Union flag? Wink
Hey, this thread's passed its century! Doing better than the Eng-er-land cricket team! Laughing Make the most of it before Cecil steps in. Crying or Very sad
No, big Ron's not my role model. Model steam roller, perhaps.

Finally, we can get back to the point of the thread.

I think the great thing is the fact that the England cricket team is so competitive these days after being the whipping boys of test cricket for so many years. The current test series will be the first it hasn't won in two years but in that time three of them have been very close. Since losing to Sri Lanka in 2003 England has risen from the bottom of the world rankings to be second only to Australia with 6 series wins. I think Pakistan are a great team and expect them to complete the win against England but they should take nothing for granted. The best thing is that both games in Pakistan have been great from start to finish. I'd much rather see competitive games with England losing than England winning all the time. To be honest I'm more interested in the West Indies at the moment. They have declined so far from the great teams of the 70s and 80s. It would be wonderful to see them win some kids back from baseball. Hopefully the World Cup in March 2007 will help with that.

Cecil need have no worries now we are back talking cricket.
