This is simply your opinion. In your culture, the reasons are not men's responsibility and dignity but instead men's SHAME and INSECURITY.
I have dozens of studies to prove it.
Anyone who feels the need to refer to himself as "King Cobra" surely understands insecurity. |

Where There Is No Shame, There Is No Honor.
The shame is a universal behaviour or emotion among human beings, and anyone who has no shame has no dignity and will be disrespected by his fellow the human beings.
Of course, the degree of shamelessness in a human being, differ from a culture to another.
Shame and guilt are noble emotions essential in the maintenance of civilized society, and vital for the development of some of the most refined and elegant qualities of human potential?Willard Gaylen

I think you miss-understood the reason behind why I refer to myself as King Cobra 007, it has nothing to do with insecurity or shame! It is like actors playing a role in a film or a theatre, each one reflects an identity or an icon which is not necessarily his true identity.
You have to admit that the problem of depression exist among men and women in the west (especially in US) more than the East, , and I think you are aware about the reasons behind it!

| A lack of shamelessness seems to be a defining characteristic of old Gulf TEFLers. |

I would absolutely NOT agree. The difference is in diagnosis (and in the case of the US, gross over-diagnosis in order to sell them drugs). Especially among females, I would say that the numbers are the same for women in the ME... as would be expected.
But that is not something that I would expect Abba to understand or accept.

I must say that this forum, more so than any of the other forums on Dave's, is packed with extremely haughty and pedantic f**kwits. I guess for most of you living in KSA is akin to suffering from chronic sexual frustration.
This particular thread has become ridiculous. |
Well, Wailing Imam, I wouldn't go so far as to entirely agree with the first part....I do say entirely ....but what you say about this thread, I have to say it is indeed becoming rather tiresome and absurd. About three pages back I stopped reading certain posters, and confined myself to new input, like yourself.
What do depression in M v F, the merits and demerits of shared accom, california real-estate values (must be bad when even I get bored with real-estate!!), 007's grammatical ability, the role of women in KSA or generally and feminism have to do with how good a job the Langsols gig is or is not.
Does anyone here remember the concept of relevance in good writing?
What is the Langsols gig like anyway, can anybody tell us? |

What I'm now asking myself is, why did I bother???????????
Incidentally, not wishing to sound too pedantic, but
| Quote: |
| since Bebsi has joined this thread |
is grammatically incorrect.
You see, "has joined", being the present perfect, is of course used without a time marker, whereas the use of "since" connotates a specific time.
It would be far more appropriate and correct to say "since Bebsi joined this thread".
In fact, we could use "since Bebsi has joined this thread" in a different context, meaning "given that Bebsi has joined this thread...." but a further clause would normally be necessary, e.g. "since Bebsi has joined this thread, let us go back to the subject of real estate".
Of course, my interjection is utterly irrelevant, which is what makes it so relevant here!!!!

Yes, Bebsi, anything you say or write is relevant, whether it is about real estate or English grammar! |

I don't admit that at all. What gives you that idea?? Diagnosis and classification of depression in "the East" aren't the same as in "the west" for a very good reason. I'm sure you know what it is but you don't want to admit it.
And your insecurities are in evidence for all to see when you call yourself "King Cobra". Shame! |

Read my post again, hobbit. Your reading skills are sorely lacking. As are your spelling skills. |
