Well yes, because, although you have the right to like and dislike any politician and his/her politics, I think someone who intelligently studied the transformation of Britain in this period under Thatcher, or lived through it (as I did), wouldnt make this kind of comment.

What exactly makes you "sick to your stomach" about Thatcher? Could it be that it has nothing to do with the great work she did?

Let's see, first off, you imply that something's not OK with my intellect because there's no way I could've INTELLIGENTLY studied the impact of this politician on her country (and the world) without agreeing with you or others who, to quote another poster, LOVE her. If that is your position, I really don't see the point in explaining why I included her as one of many examples of women who are in power and, in my view and based on my life experiences, studies, analyses, etc., do a poor job. Please don't make easy implications about me or my thoughts. Conceiving the possibility of others having different views on political issues would help lots more.

As you didn't answer the question, I think that says all I need to know.

....Phil, didn't say there was something wrong with your intellect...he just said, "You wouldn't have made this comment"...in that respect, you're misquoting him.

what other examples of women in power / authority / cultural power don't make you sick?

Courtney Love? Oprah? Ellen Degeneres? Miley Cyrus? Madonna?

In The Men's Room(s)

When I was young I believed in intellectual conversation:
I thought the patterns we wove on stale smoke
floated off to the heaven of ideas.
To be certified worthy of high masculine discourse
like a potato on a grater I would rub on contempt,
suck snubs, wade proudly through the brown stuff on the floor.
They were talking of integrity and existential ennui
while the women ran out for six-packs and had abortions
in the kitchen and fed the children and were auctioned off.

Eventually of course I learned how their eyes perceived me:
when I bore to them cupped in my hands a new poem to nibble,
when I brought my aerial maps of Sartre or Marx,
they said, she is trying to attract our attention,
she is offering up her *beep* and thighs.
I walked on eggs, their tremulous equal:
they saw a fish peddler hawking in the street.

Now I get coarse when the abstract nouns start flashing.
I go out to the kitchen to talk cabbages and habits.
I try hard to remember to watch what people do.
Yes, keep your eyes on the hands, let the voice go buzzing.
Economy is the bone, politics is the flesh,
watch who they beat and who they eat,
watch who they relieve themselves on, watch who they own.
The rest is decoration.

Im kinda surprised it has lasted this long.

Back to the original question... I do think that the majority of EFL teachers, at least in my experience in Mexico indeed are liberal. Fortunately, I have rarely run into the rabid type (liberal or conservative). Maybe that is because we learn to tolerate other after being "foreign" for a time and know what it is like to not be tolerated.

I hope you are including me in the "non-rabid" liberal category (good adjective, by the way). Very Happy

I like "neochristians" . Is this a term you've invented? Could you explain it to us?

While we're adding new words to the English dictionary, if there are "hateful neochristians" are there also "loveful neochristians"?

Like neocons are neo-conservatives who hijacked American Conservatism for their own political agenda of war, torture, executive branch power and corruption, and economic destruction of the middle class; neochristians hijacked Christianity in America for their agenda of religious intolerance. They cherry pick scriptures from Leviticus (except verse 19:33, of course) and ignore Jesus words of love, tolerance and acceptance in the New Testament to further their exclusion and condemnation of others - gays, Muslims, Mexicans.

Their goal is an American evangelical theocracy where the Constitution would be re-defined by their own version of Gods Standards This was actually suggested by Mike Huckabee who was a runner-up for the Republican nomination.

Dobson of Focus on the Family, the late Falwell, Pat Robertson and Palin are good examples of neochristians.

Yes, I coined the phrase and no, I havent encountered any loveful neochristians.

Thanks for the all too accurate definition of your neologism. Do you have any more up your lexicografical sleeve?
