|

Hello everybody,
I've been reading through the posts here and learned quite a bit about TEFL opportunities in Saudi Arabia. Thanks for all the helpful information!
I still have a couple of questions and I apologize if these issues have been covered elsewhere (I've searched, I promise!).
Is it possible to complete the employment visa process from a country other than my own? In other words, would I need to return to my home country? I live on the border of mainland China and Hong Kong so I would likely be going to Hong Kong to have a visa processed/medical tests. While I see that there is a KSA consulate in HK, I've been unable to find a website or further information.
Also, I've read enough here to understand that recruiters should be avoided. So far, I've looked at the websites of all universities in the KSA and found a few that I could apply to directly. Is there a better way of doing this? How about military or oil company jobs? Am I correct to assume that these are impossible to apply to as an incoming direct hire?
Any other advice/steering would be greatly appreciated. Here are some details about me:
Education: BA in Comparative Literature and Psychology (2008)
Certificate: Cambridge CELTA (2012)
Experience: Nearly five years full-time experience at private language institutes in Austria, Korea, Taiwan, and mainland China
Personal: USA, male, single, 29 years old
Thanks so much! |

This varies from employer to employer. I was twice recruited while living in a country that had diplomatic relations but no Saudi cEmbassy.
If you are being recruited by one of the Government Universities, the Saudi Cultural Attache in the country where you are resident MAY be able to help. You MAY though haver tyo go back home with all the hassle and cost. |

No harm in applying if you believe you fit the requirements. However, having experience pre-CELTA may be an issue; employers want to see experience gained post-teaching qualification. Some may also wonder about your nearly 5 years of experience---that it was spread over four countries and in language institutes and not at the uni level. A few things to keep in mind when/if you submit your CV. |
