Hi. Im new to this forum, and reading over past posts I see that a lot of help is given here. I have been offered a direct hire teaching position at a university in Buraimi Oman. I have an offer for; I think it works out to about 1400 riyals a month with accommodation included. Is this a reasonable salary for Oman? I will have to find accommodation on arrival, I will be staying in a hotel for a few days and I presume someone from the university will help me find a place to live. What can I expect to pay for an apartment or small house for one person? Thanks for any feedback. |

Is the position offered with University of Buraimi (UoB), or Buraimi University College (BUC)? |

Hi Texasgal.
That is a great salary for Uob from what I know. As for Oman in total I am not sure. Presuming that someone from the university will help you find housing might be a little ambitious. I would rely on word of mouth from other teachers, they have been more helpful in my experience. They will rush you to find a place really quickly in a couple of days. Of course they point you to realtors they are associated with, who may or may not be helpful. What my wife and I did is rent a car and drive around and talk with as many realtors as you can, and see what they have....not much.
Finally, you should be able to get a place for 120-180 OMR. 180 would be very high for an apartment, but if it meets your needs and you are going to be comfortable then go for it. For that price it better be furnished and have AC. Also, make sure you bargain. If you find a place you really like complain about it and ask for a lower price. |
