| I have TESOL certification and a Masters in elementary education. I taught 18 years in elementary education and and in my 13th year as and ESOL teacher. Aside from the age issue (60), any thoughts on what my job prospects are with the degree/certification that I have? Thanks! |

Usually unnecessary to repeat posts in General and Newbie forums. Regulars regularly read them both.
 It would be helpful if you gave us some clue about where in the world you might like to go.
I can speak for the European Union; unless you have a second passport from an EU member country, little opportunity here for a US citizen, regardless of qualifications or age. |

I suggest checking out the following:
Although you have a TESOL cert---I assume it's for teaching adults---it makes sense to stay with teaching youngsters as that's been your experience over the past 18 years. |

Also, as most TEFLers train with adolescents and adults, there is a shortage of people with little people know-how. |

| I taught elementary education for 18 years but the last 13 have been teaching ESL to students in grades K-12. My ESOL certification is for grades K-12. I hope my certification/degree/experience will be enough to get a position somewhere! |

How about Kiev? There is a fair amount of demand for people who can teach English to students of all ages.
Also, if (as I assume is the case) you are a fully qualified mainstream teacher, you might get to teach at an international school. You get paid real money there, as opposed to TEFL salary. |

So am I understanding you to say that jobs at international schools are higher paying? More desirable? Would these be jobs teaching in regular classrooms-not ESL classes? There's so much I don't know

By and large (depending of course of the country in question) the entry level remuneration packages for mainstream, internationally accredited schools, is between 30%-100% more than entry level EFL/ESL.
In my personal experience, properly accredited international schools in Asia have starting packages with salaries in the US$3000-4000 /month plus full benefits (air, housing, generous vacations, etc).
TEFL jobs, on the other hand, run the gamut from $1000-2500 and may or may not include any benefits.
As a proper TESOL teacher you might want to look at things like the NET program in Hong Kong: http://www.edb.gov.hk/index.aspx?nodeID=1300&langno=1 (salary is about US$5000 but you may have age issues).

JBrannan - I would suggest thinking about which countries you are interested in and then doing some research. |

From everything I've read I am afraid my chances for a good position in any country are unlikely due to age (60). But, this is my dream and I'm not giving up! |

| There are several other threads about this. Many contributors think that age is a problem in some countries but not in others. Check out the threads on this issue (Newbie and General forums, I would suggest). |
