I plan to teach English in Chile beginning some time in August. Santiago is the place where most positions are available. However, they don't appear to open up until March. With my credentials (BA in Applied Linguistics, TEFL Cert.) I still hope to find a job while applying from the states. Do I really have a shot at lining something up so late in the year? If so which school should I apply to? For anyone who has taught in Santiago, I would greatly appreciate any advice. |

It depends on the need. It's possible, but generally most places don't hire from outside the country. I know one school that does (Curtis), but they can't pay relocation costs.
There's always a sob story somewhere of someone who had to break their contract, so there's an empty position somewhere, but these would probably fill up with people who are already here, rather than those applying from abroad. Also, you could probably work for a couple of different institutes for a while, random hours here and there. But it might make you crazy.
