Saudi Arabia Overthrow Imminent: Obama Advisor

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/01/28/286065/obama-aide-warns-of-saudi-king-downfall/

Quote:
A close aide to US President Barack Obama has warned the president about the imminent downfall of the ruling monarchy in Saudi Arabia.

Bruce Riedel, an adviser on foreign policy to US President Barack Obama and also director for Near East and North African Affairs in the US National Security Council, recently penned a memorandum to the president noting that Saudi Arabia is the world's last absolute monarchy and that like [France's] Louis XIV, King Abdullah has complete authority.

He wrote that the ongoing wave of "Awakening is making a revolution possible in the Arab kingdom most probably during the second term in office of President Obama.

Revolutionary change in the kingdom would be a disaster for American interests across the board, Riedel warned................

Dear Keyboard Kommando,

Well, anything's possible, I suppose. But if it happens, I think it would probably be the first time there was a revolution in a country where most of the citizens drove Toyotas, Hondas or better Very Happy.

I'm taking bets on a pool if anyone's interested. My pick: not in my lifetime (of course, at my age, that's not putting it TOO far in the future Very Happy)

Regards,
John

You did note the source, didn't you?

One of those propaganda/wishful thinking articles that one can often find on the internets. And there is the fact the people have been writing memos predicting this for years... eh John?

I remember saying I'd give the Saudi monarchy 10 to 15 years. That was two years ago. An Egyptian colleague said, "no, two to four years." That would mean sometime this year or soon thereafter.

John, I don't know about it not happening in your lifetime. I would say, not within King Abdullah's lifetime. I'd put up 20 bucks on that. A lot will depend on foreign reaction to the protests and Bahrain.

I remember people saying this 20-30 years ago. It appears to us that it may be more likely now, but the royal family has proven to have more staying power than many people have expected over the years.

Like John, I wonder if there are enough unhappy people in a country with its wealth and the majority living well - and a significant number living VERY well. It is a different dynamic than a place like Bahrain or Egypt or Syria where the underclasses are a very significant majority.

It will continue to be a story that we all follow...

According to Wikipedia, "Among the few nations where the monarch still claims full power (as head of both state and government) are Brunei, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. United Arab Emirates is a federation of absolute monarchies."

Thailand also comes to mind:

I wonder if Mr. Barry really needed to be informed what kind of government Saudi Arabia has. I think not:

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2009/04/obama_bows_down_to_saudi_king.html

And he obviously would like the USA to join the list, at least as long as he could be emperor:

Dear Sirens of Cyprus,

Ah, at last some news sources universally acknowledged as fully reputable and totally trustworthy: a letter to the editor of The Times of Northwest Indiana and an article from "The Blaze," a website (i.e. blog) started by that paragon of journalistic integrity, Glenn Beck, in which a former schoolmate of Obama reports on something he supposedly said when he was 10 years old.

Yup, that clinches it for me - Obama wants to be emperor Very Happy.

Regards,
John

I return from examining the entrails of a ritually slaugheterd beast and will say, "The Future lies hidden to the eyes of mere men but the House of Saud have little to fear."

Well, I wasn't really using those sources to try to convince anyone. I thought I was just stating the obvious. You mean you don't believe he wants to be emperor? After the fundamental change?

Dear Sirens of Cyprus,

When the messenger brings BS, I don't attack, I only point out that it IS BS.

You DID check out the snopes link, right?

By the way, I should point out that it's the sources that I'm refuting, not you.
You're as entitled as I to believe whatever you want to, of course.

Regards,
John

Well, that story about being an Indonesian prince sounds exactly like the kind of thing the boy-man Obama would say. And he certainly acts to me like he has delusions of grandeur with all his czars and executive orders and posturing (when he isn't bowing):
