Well, I managed to make a rookie mistake a lose my documentation, including:

1) CELTA
2) College diploma

Luckily, I had all of these things for when I had my visa dealt with earlier in 2012. That said, I am here legally on a year-long visa, and only really need these original documents for hiring purposes. I moved from Hanoi to HCMC recently - I had been working for Apollo for nine months before the move, and now am trying to find a new job.

Problem is, the turnover time for receiving duplicates and replacement documentation for these documents takes lots of time. I'm wondering if anyone knows if a school would be willing to hire without these originals if they knew that the documentation was pending. Would the fact that I was hired previously using this documentation mean anything? Could they somehow contact this other school to check?

Thanks for the help.

Do you have any copies? You should keep the originals, hard copies, and digital copies of all your documents on hand.

If you have the copies a school might hire you, but it wouldn't be legal. To teach legally in Vietnam you need a work permit. A work permit only covers the job that you are working at when you received the permit. If you change jobs, your work permit is invalid and you need a new one. At least that's what I've been told by my current school.

You could try Apollo again. American Academy and other mills would probably wait for your docs. But I can't say for sure. I've always been asked for originals during the hiring process. Often just when I drop off a CV.
