Here's what I'm thinking of doing:
1. Find a job teaching ESL in China
2. Complete my online TEFL certification before beginning (currently in progress, but won't be able to finish before hiring season ends)
3. With savings from teaching in China, earn CELTA certification
4. Find a higher-paying job teaching ESL in China
5. With savings from higher-paying job, earn MA in TESOL
6. Find top-tier job in China or elsewhere
Does that seem like a logical career path? |

That is a reasonable progression. If possible, getting the CELTA (or another respected cert) right away is better. In the long run having two certificates won't be of much use.
Once you get past the CELTA level, you have to think about what type of jobs you want. I recently decided to forgo a MA and get a BEd, with state teaching certification instead because I want to work at international schools. |

Depending on where you teach in China and where you study your MA, you may be waiting a long time to have enough savings. |

Start at Step 3.
Don't waste your money with online crap--you'll regret it and finding a job that values your skills over your skin isn't easy in Asia.
Get a loan if need be. You can do a CELTA in Beijing--I met someone who did that in Feb. You'll immediately qualify for better jobs with a higher income right off the bat, enabling you to save for that next pro step.
Check the job market in China for CELTA quals first ---timing will factor into that--when will you complete the course? |

I second Long Shi Kong - start at step 3
Then go as quickly as possible to step six - with emphasis on elsewhere |
