Can anyone tell me if windsurfing is widely practiced in SA and the best places to be for it?

I've heard it's better to be on the Red Sea coast than the Gulf coast for it but the statement wasn't accompanied by an explanation. Any truth to this?

Cheers

Dear demitrescou,

You might want to "like" this facebook page:

and there's this:

Cheers Johnny.

Considering a random move to SA but not sure if I'm comfortable with having no access to beer. Really not much of a drinker but I am partial to a nice cold Carlsberg in the evening after work.

You may be considering a move to KSA, but rest assured there will be nothing random or arbitrary about it. The process of getting a job here can take months of planning: starting with the initial contact; interviews, paper work(lots of paper work), medicals, relocation to finally arriving.
...not much of a drinker; partial to carlsberg are ye? Laughing
Try the UAE or Oman

Windsurfing ? Good on the Red Sea - north of Jeddah. Maybe in Yanbu, Al-Wejh and Jaizan. Not good in Khobar. Not practical in Riyadh

Based on the 'theme' of your recent threads on the general jobs forum, the Kingdom isn't a good idea for someone with major uncertainty in their life. Also, have you started your MA program? It will help you compete for the better jobs here.

Damn shame that Egypt is pretty much a no-go area these days as it was prime diving and windsurfing country - Sharm el-Sheikh and Dahab, especially. Also very cheap airline deals out of Saudi were always abundant - 900SR return was the norm. I've never seen one windsurfer here and I live 3 minutes walk from the sea.

I believe its a bit unfair to have this view that Egypt has completely gone to the sewers (though at times it does feel like it!!).

I'm sure whoever is curious enough to visit the place or consider moving here will use their noggins to determine where to go and where not to go. I've been here before the revolution and still here, the difference I see is that every Friday afternoons there seems to be a protest of some sort, and its generally in Tahrir- not in any other place.

The other places seem to be fine- in fact its probably better to visit now as it won't be polluted with too many tourists (if that is what you prefer).

Again, security + safety can be a problem anywhere, just use that thing between yer shoulders! Rolling Eyes

Here is one of the places to check out

South Jeddah is also supposedly good and, when I was there was relatively "undeveloped".

I know someone who does it at Silver Sands, one of the private beaches in North Jeddah.
