Dear mick80,
Perhaps you should post some info about your interests, goals, and desires of teaching in Taiwan.
Your post sounds like someone asking at at party, "Hey, what do you guys think of McDonald's?"
Tell us what you have found out on your own--we can confirm or deny that--and give additional relevant information.
Sorry if I sound like I am talking down to you, but no one knows where you are coming from!

Taylor pretty much gave you a great answer there. My best standard advice to anyone considering HESS: Depends.
Are you an EXPERIENCED teacher? If so, you probably won't fit in their "education organization." All I can say is THANK GOD for their 30-day escape clause. They still have it, don't they?
Are you an INEXPERIENCED Wannabe-Teacher? Hess might actually be the place for you. They provide you with kids, translators (young college girls who often do very little else than sit in the back of the class and read comic books --OOPS! I'm s'posed to be sounding OBJECTIVE, here. Sorry), teaching materials, and even lesson plans. All you do is show up and plug in! A couple of my buddies got started that way and later moved on to bigger and better things.
Me? I'll say it again: THANK GOD FOR THEIR 30-DAY ESCAPE CLAUSE. I got out quick. In the education world, there ain't nothin worse than being bossed by some egotistical, snotty-nosed kid who thinks he or she knows better than you. I'm referring to some of the Lead Teachers, not the students. Good luck; you are going to need it. |
