Hey guys.
I was wondering what dentist are like in Russia. I imagine them to be somewhat unpleasant.

I'm asking this question because about 6 years back I had a root canal surgery. Everything was fine and dandy until a few months back when a new dentist X-rayed my teeth and found that the previous dentist had left a small bit of root in there and that there appeared to be a small build up of bacteria.

Basically, if I don't get this tiny piece of root removed and the whole thing sorted out, I am in danger of having it abscess.

It appears that finding an NHS dentist who will do it in my city is looking impossible and even the dental hospital wouldn't do it. Going private will cost me between 700-800 (37,000 rub)

So I'm wondering if such a thing would be cheaper to do in Russia, or whether I really need to try and find a way of getting it done in the UK.

I have about 2 months to get it sorted before I head over to Moscow, so I am trying to find a solution asap.

I doubt any of you know the exact cost of such things, but perhaps you have some experience of Russian dentistry.

I've been to a couple of dentists in Moscow, and they have been no different to my local NHS dentist at home. Clean and hygienic practices, professional staff who gave effective and competent treatment. No complaints.

I haven't been for a while, but I don't recall the prices being any cheaper than the UK; possibly slightly more expensive. I had a tooth removed, which cost about 2000 roubles (40), and a filling replaced, which was about the same. I think the last check up I had was 400 roubles (8 ).

I doubt many Russian dentists speak much more than passable English - if language is an issue, don't try to get it done here. Any chance you could get it done in Poland or somewhere similar for a cheaper price?

Ahaha, well it appears that my problem requires advanced treatment, which is why nobody will do it for less than a billion dollars.
After consulting some dentists it appears that my best option is to just leave it be and if it does cause me problems, just have the tooth removed.

It's a molar near the back, so it will only show if I smile a big smile.

I think a Russian dentist can pull the thing out without any problem, so it's all good.

I don't know how to break this to you, but I am told that dentists in Russia are not trained to the level of doctors as they are in many countries. That doesn't mean that they aren't trained or that they can't use their equipment.

One little anecdote for you. In Siberia I went to a dentist with all mod cons and a certificate pertaining to training in Italy. The disturbing bit was when she administered the anaesthetic, hypodermic in one hand, telephone jammed to her ear with the other.

I had good experiences with Russian dentists. I had a crown put on and it cost about $200, a few years ago. I wouldn't worry about it; Russians have better teeth than Americans, I think.
