I am directly employed by a local school and have just been asked to get involved with a camp on 1st July. This is the 2nd time they have asked me to work on a public holiday. I don’t want to say 'no' as I get on well with everyone and it's really not a problem to give up some time, but I just want to find out if this is the norm so that I know for next year. Any feedback appreciated. |

I have had to go in on a Saturday a couple of times to do a 'camp' but never on a national holiday.
If your immediate peers are going then I guess you kind of have to as well. |

My contract states ‘some occasions outside of regular school hours’ which I assumed to be evenings or Saturdays (should have clarified that). The local teachers seem to put in all sorts of hours so I guess you do just have to go with the flow sometimes.
I just wanted to see if other people had been asked to do the same or whether I could actually say ‘no’ if I’d had something planned or in case they ask for more next year as I don’t want them to think I’m ok with losing all my odd days off.
sistercream - thanks for the info (it was useful to read and know where to find it in case of future questions) |
