Dear all in Hanoi,

Will anyone have these 2nd hand books?

Scrivener, Learning Teaching.
Jeremy Harmer, The Practice of English Language Teaching.

I want to read a little about what the erudite of this profession has to say about ESL and also begin to prepare for a CELTA course. Not that I will necessarily take it, but if the reading turns out to be worthwhile that is reward in itself.

I am in Hanoi and would appreciate anyone's help.

pm me if we could meet up for an exchange

TBH I think you can buy them quite cheaply in the big bookshop near Hoan Kiem lake....forget the name but it's down the wide street off the south east corner as you head towards the Opera house.

They had a lot of CELTA style theory books at very modest prices.

The Harmer book is pretty lame as I remember but Scrivener has a good reputation.

One of the most useful books I read is http://www.amazon.co.uk/Practical-Techniques-Language-Teaching-Publications/dp/0906717558

Covers much of the same theory but is less 'woolly'.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that one too - I have the other two already, thanks to a nice p.m. I got.

Thanks.

Dunno about Harmer being lame. Much the same as Scrivener. In any case this title is well worth a look:

A decent chap is Sashadroogie - quite resourceful - I'm reading Scrivener as we speak.

I'm also looking for Celta books in Hanoi. I tried the stores by the lake and could not find books there. If anyone has a specific reference, that would be great.

Thanks!

Dai Troung Phat seems to be the most professional ESL outlet in HCMC. They wholesale to centers and will give a discount if you tell them where you work. If anyone has what you need I think it would be them.

They have a Hanoi outlet listed here:
