Just wondered if anyone has had experience, positive or negative, with this uni? Also, any general comments about Jiaxing are welcome.

Thanks

I don't know the school but I'm a bit familiar with the city, as I have friends living there. It's not the most exciting city, but it does have some amenities such as decent restaurants and cinemas and the usual Chinese nightlife. I couldn't recommend a bar since my friends don't drink. It's kind of a sprawling affair with an older core section and business districts and new housing initiatives spoking out from the center. The university is in town it appears, or at least has a campus in town. You should find out if it is or not and whether your students and accommodation will be in town. Sometimes university campuses are far from diversions and long distance transportation options.

The South Lake is a rather nice park and not too far out. When I lived in another part of Zhejiang, I often noticed that Jiaxing was slightly cooler in the Spring. That may make a difference on some days (but don't expect to avoid hot and humid weather). Overall, it was a quiet but clean city.

Jiaxing is on the main new railway between Shanghai and Hangzhou so you can take the D-train and/or G-train to either city very quickly. HOWEVER: Jiaxing South Station is a RMB40+ taxi fare from the down town areas. The city buses that go to that station will take over half an hour in good traffic, maybe 45min. In the end it might be better (and cheaper) to take the regular train from Jiaxing Station in town, especially for short trips.

I got an offer from the place not long ago also, but did some hunting around online and the provided apartments seemed pretty dumpy - unless they've been upgraded since the blogs and youtube vids I'd found. Seemed like a step *down* from the job I currently have pay wise and condition wise, so I figured were it to be the choice between heading there, or staying put I'd stay based simply upon lethargy.
Not a bad distance from Shangers and Hangzhou, though.
Jiaxing is another of those 4 or 5 million people sized cities that no one has ever heard of.

Here's a couple of reviews....
