Sasha, all I can say is too bad the BBC didn't have "smell a vision"!! Then people could really appreciate some of the finer aspects of our grand metro.

I can remember just steppin off the boat and being awed by the ornateness of the metro.

Fast forward some years later!, I'm just like, get me the hell outta here! Crushing crowds, putrid smells, crooked cops, wild city dogs, beggars, and a plethora of other added bonuses.

At times I feel my metro rides can feel like drug induced trips where as I pass these stations filled with splendor, people with faces of gloom enter with an unseen force. And we continue on our somber ride to the ultimate depths of purgatory to visit with the malevolent Master himself....Stalin!!!!

Roscoe my friend, you need to nip up the stairs for a breath of fresh air and then come back for another look at the brilliance of Ploschad Revolutsi. Stunning place, a museum of brilliant 20th century art you can touch and rub 7 days a week. Pet the dog's nose.

Or any of the dozens of the older original Metros in the city center. Anywhere else in the world, these subway platforms would be excavated and removed to untouchable museums for permanent preservation. They would be behind a plexiglass barrier.

To live in a world of art which is still in common use every day is a treat and a privilege.

You know not what you have.

Well Expat, there was a bit of tongue n cheek to my response...however, I still don't hold the metro in such high esteem as you. But I definitely envy your sunny outlook!

Sure, as much as I moan and groan, the metro is one of the most convenient and reliable systems I've ever traveled on....and when I get a chance to step out of the way of the herds of people, I can appreciate one of the many works of arts displayed throughout the metro stations.

Stay Gold Expatella!

Dear RoscoeTX

Please have a bag packed by your doorway, as some of the re-educators will be swinging by your komunalka to take you off to a few 'suggested' classes in order for you to learn to love being surrounded by the glorious workers and peasants of our beloved Motherland hic!
