I have been offered a teaching position in Changchun with comp. benefits and a slightly above average salary for 20 hrs/wk. I have also been offered positions in Chengdu, Chongqing, Jiaxing, and Shanghai with similar contracts. Additionally, a cruise line wants me to help train their staff in western hospitality and conv. English in Wuhan/Chongqing and the three gorges for even more money and a shorter contract. I am leaning toward the cruise line or Changchun. Does anyone have experience in either place? And in Changchun, can extra money be made outside of teaching? Should I hold out for a position in Qingdao or Dalian? And before I commit to anything, can I be sure that George W. will in no way be a part of my experience? Thanks to any and all. |

you should decide what you want to do and then go for it. What do you mean about holding out for Dalian or Quingdao??? Are they supposed to be dream locations??? My advice (and I aint been here that long) is figure out what sounds the most agreeable to you and forget about the salary. You will make enough no matter where you go so why worry about it. And if you are hungry there should be extra work also. I am in a hic town so I thought at first no way will I be able to do extras. WRONG. The school itself came to me offering me part time work. So my humble advice is just pick the place you want to go and dont sweat it... |

I worked in Changchun for Columbia. It sucked. Take the cruise and the shorter contract. Chanchun will always be there. So will all the other cities. The cruise could be fun or it could be hell! I hear the boats aren't so luxurious and a little dirt, like everything else here.
