I saw this tonight. Reminded me of Otto's statement vis-a-vis lawmaking.

"For the squeamish it is better not to examine the making of laws or the production of sausages," (I paraphrase.)

Good. My 19-year-old daughter was bored. The cinema was almost empty.

I liked it. Is Daniel Day Lewis raelly 6 foot 3inches ? Or did he stand on stilts ?

I have just seen the film in London, and the cinema was only about one third full. Several young people walked out during the film.

I can only imagine it has more appeal to American audiences. It is quite a somnolent period piece with lots of complicated backroom political wheeling and dealing.

I personally liked it and I thought Day-Lewis's method acting was superb -he was totally immersed in the role.

He is 1.87m tall = 6 feet 1.6inches.

I'm not a young person, but I too would have walked out from the cinema. Really cannot stand Spielberg films when they try to be serious. Schindler's List is another travesty - emotional pornography posing as a historical film. And as for Amistad! Lincoln joins his list of pretentious 'right-on' propaganda films which make no attempt, none, to conceal the artlessness of their manipulation.

The Lincoln flick with the vampires in it - I had more respect for that. Mainly because the director had a modicum more respect for my intelligence.

I saw the vampire Lincoln movei on a plane. Was quite enteratining. Wink

As for the Speilberg movie, I hope to watch it soon when it gets released in Japanese movie theatres BUT...

... I worry about one thing.

I think Abraham Linocln also said "I'm looking forward to a great night at the theater!" Wink

P.S I spelt it "theater" when Abraham Lincoln said it because he was American. Wink

I really liked Lincoln ... and as a fairly anti-American Brit thats no small feat! Ive seen most of the big Oscar-nominated pics ... Lincoln was one of the better ones ... Le Miserable and Zero Dark 30 are both to be avoided IMO. Les Mis especially ... awful awful movie.

I agree - my wife dragged me to see it (I'm NOT a fan of musicals, either), but I was impressed, especially by Hugh Jackman, who, I'd say, did an amazing acting job, and by Anne Hathaway.

Even Crowe, stuck in his one-dimensional role, was tolerable Very Happy

Victor Hugo would, I think, not be amused ! I certainly was not.If I want a dose of musical unreality I will go to a Bollywood production - or jet off to La Scala, Milan.

OK, I'm confused. So, did you actually SEE the movie? The quote above seems to imply that you haven't, but if that's the case, how could you have a legitimate opinion about it?
