One year contracts are good if you don't have responsibilities back home, however I am finding it hard to secure a short term teaching gig.
I would love to spend some time in China as a volunteer or paid educator. I know Uni gigs operate within a semester time frame of three to five months. But they are difficult to secure.
If any of you expats have a lead to a short term volunteer or paid contract please message me. I'm a certified and registered teacher in Australia, so who ever hires me will be assured I am not wasting their collateral.

Thanks for the reply. I had a look at the program and it suits back packers more than educators. If the program offered a stipend that would help. We have to eat, sight see a bit, and buy things. I have never understood why organisations expect a volunteer to cover all their own expenses. I am educator by profession and would at least expect some form of remuneration. After all I am paying my own way abroad, and I don't have much money either. I am on welfare. Then I find it even harder to believe some organisations expect the volunteer to pay them for their services. It's ludicrous, I may as well just accept a salaried job in China or any where in Asia and be a lot more comfortable with my earnings. |

Try any other schools and programs in Yangshuo.
Lots of people here (myself included) are on contracts of less than one year. You might find lots of jobs in China are more suited to 'backpackers' than certified teachers though.
And you should consider changing the title of the thread. It mentions volunteer programs, but it seems you dont want those at all. |

There is no creditability to this thread with the addition of the looking for a Chinese wife statement. |

No credibility? You rule the roost. Nevertheless I edited my post, being single and lonely for a long time makes a man do and say strange things.
However I am still interested in volunteering, but if a paid two month gig comes along I will take that too. Volunteering should be accompanied with a stipend, we need to eat, buy things out of need, not greed and sight see.
I racked my brain on the net looking for a program but nothing came up. |
