For those who may have missed it yesterday on BBC 2 at 9pm . Check it out on BBC iPlayer - BBC 2.

Programme Info:-

BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner returns for the first time to Riyadh, the city in Saudi Arabia where he was shot by Al Qaeda in 2004 and left dependent upon a wheelchair. Travelling in this important and mysterious country, he explores how it has so far avoided an Arab Spring revolution.

I think Frank is looking for another trouble by visiting the Chop-Chop square in the city centre of Riyadh! Laughing

Well, I do not think there will be an Arab Spring revolution in the Magic Kingdom, because the "Saudi Code" prevents this to happen.

Yes, I had noticed that. It was quite emotional to see him break down when he visited the hospital that saved his life.

Overall, I thought it was interesting and thought provoking.

According to the BBC website, this can only be watched in the UK or if we want to purchase a UK license.

According to the BBC web site:
"Much of our website is aimed at UK users, so we negotiate rights to include video, audio, images and other types of content for the UK only. World rights are much more expensive, but we are hoping to make more audio and visual content available to our international audiences."

I saw the bit where he covered the building of the new border fence in the South to prevent Yemesni from coming over. I remember when this was an open border and Yemenis were de facto Saudi citizens !

Yeah, but these days they are seen as inveterate spongers (like the rest of us Very Happy) who are not only ungrateful for their highly generous monthly $50 salary but ALSO have the cheek to send it back home to their dirt poor, starving families having only worked 100 hours a week in 45C temperatures. After all, the poor Saudis are only getting a paltry $110 per barrel of oil.

Probably nearer to US$100 - certainly a lot less than the $3000 to $4000 a teacher picks up. Yemenis need visas and iqamas now. Pre-1990 they were treated as Saudi citizens (110 volt variety)

Thanks Geronimo. I assumed that it would show up on youtube eventually, but didn't expect it so soon.

Off to watch it immediately.

I am actually watching it on the BBC, on Saudi TV, as I write this.

I assume that this is the message that was presented because I was on an American IP.

Oh yes... I always watched the beeb (or listened on the shortwave before sat TV was allowed in) the whole time I was overseas. I have missed it since I got back to the states and have repeatedly written to the BBC about getting BBC World Service into the US at the least, but they apparently are not interested or not allowed to offer anything other than BBC America... which shows little that interests me and has almost no news on it at all.

Which BBC, abayalady? Is it the BBC World Service?
Can you watch BBC 1, 2, 3, and 4 on your TV in the Magic Kingdom?

Oh lord, I don't know Zara. My apartment came with basic cable. It's on channel 13 and says BBC World News, that's all I know.
