What's the deal with health checks in China? Are they unsanitary? Do they re-use needles? Just want to make sure first world standards are applied or if there are special hospitals to go to inorder to get these things doen if need be. |

My experience has been new, disposable needles and tips, pads or whatever needs to be clean. The hospitals are specially licensed by the provincial governments to run the battery of tests involved - there are few such hospitals in any province. Some of the hospitals themselves have been fairly modern, but my last one had us running around in different wings for different tests and the facilities varied quite a bit. The tests were all sanitary, however. |

Depends on the city. Usually you're required to go to a specific one which in most cases is the nicest (most expensive - make sure the school pays) one in town. Often it will have some fancy name like "Foreigner Entry - Exit Quarantine - People's Hospital # 1".....the one in my city, Wuxi is on par with anything I found in Korea or at home - They charge 100USD for a basic consultation. Extremely clean and modern, all English speaking docs, nurses every few meters directing you where to go next. They have an entire floor reserved for these medical checks at this particular hospital so it's just a case of going from one room to the next to do all the tests.
You won't get re-used needles, don't worry. |

You will get reused needles in acupuncture clinics and I had a scare on that issue.
But as far as the tests in hospital - no issues. It's a clinic situation so you just go from room to room - usually on the same floor.
Not much in the way of bedside manner, but hey they cover the ground.
A 'BTW' is that any anomalies will be exclusions if you take out local health cover through PIC. |

My experience coincides with that of Non Sequitur.
I've had thoroughly sterilized but re-used needles for acupuncture in Guangxi province once. The acupuncturist was the wife of one my best friends from Australia. She knew what she was doing and it was safe.
The three medical checks I've had since living and working in the PRC all took place in Guangdong province. They were as clean, safe, and sanitary as any I have ever had in the U.S.
