Hey all..

I was planning on staying in Bangkok for 2 months and getting a VISA for work, but things changed and I need to be home in 4 weeks. Is it dangerous to work ..illegally? I am looking for part time work..

There is always a risk (however minimal) when you work illegally and no recourse if your employer screws you.

Worst cases:
a) (unlikely but possible) you get caught, you get fined and spend a few days in an immigration detention cell until your fine is paid and your exit arranged (don't wait for them to deport you because you'll spend a lot longer in cells).

b) (happens much more often) your employer doesn't pay you or significantly under-pays you. You are out 4 weeks of your labor and you effectively have no opportunity to get it back (not like you can just run to the police or labor office and complain with no repercussions for your working illegally).

.

What if Im working part time though, would I get paid after completing my shift? For PT work, does the employer often require to see your VISA?

No risk. I worked for over a year illegally in BKK, no problem. The police and government don't care. Most people probably work illegally without ramifications.

Given the fact that you are only working 4 weeks means you won't have any problems with the Thai embassy in Vientienne bothering you or refusing to give you a tourist visa after about the third visa.

If you were staying for 2 months as you planned earlier, it wouldn't have been advantageous to get a work visa anyway within that short period of time. I personally never saw any advantage to getting a work visa period.
