Hi
I got the KSA work visa but changed my mind. Somebody told me in such a case they would black-list me and will be no chance to get a job at any Uni in KSA. Is this true? |

That sounds about right. You should consider yourself very fortunate to get a work visa because nowadays it's rare to get even that! |

@ Dr Haron,
Contact the Saudi Embassy that processed your visa and ask them, or the visa agent. Surely this would be a good place to start?
Most posters on here are well informed (apart from me ), but on an issue like this you want to be 100% sure. |

It sounds like you have a business visa that companies sometimes use. Does your visa say Employment Visa on it?
Anyhow since you have the visa why not come and make the money. I think if you come the job won't be so bad and you will have the money and can do what you want afterwards. If it is a business visa then you can say adios if the job turns out to be truly wicked. |

No one can say with certainty what the University of Dammam will/won't do in your specific situation; it's all conjecture. So you're concerned that you'll break some golden rule that will cause you to be blacklisted. But then the alternative is to take the position anyway just to avoid being potentially blacklisted for future employment in the Kingdom. That makes no sense.
It is what it is. And this is why it's so important to do all your soul-searching and research about culture/life in KSA and about the employer before accepting a job offer. Better yet, do your soul searching and research before even agreeing to an interview. (I'm reminded of your other thread, Is it possible to leave KSA if not like the job? - http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=101453). And yet, despite having doubts about taking the job, you continued on with the visa process with this employer.
You didn't say why you changed your mind. If it's because you're interested in currently pursuing an engineering teaching opportunity with another Saudi uni, then... As for the suggestion about contacting the Saudi embassy, they have no say (nor interest) in these types of issues and aren't likely to respond to your email or phone calls anyway.
However, if you plan to can the job, then don't have the employer wondering. Instead, let them know you won't be able to take the position. Choose your words and tone carefully and don't give specific reasons as to why you won't be joining. Frankly, whatever happens after that is beyond your control.

not sure that's the case. My own contractor and all those of my colleagues issue work visas prior to us coming over. Or are we special? |

Knowing that I am originally from the Middle East, but not from GCC, the sole motivation of my move is:
There is urgent family issues in my home country, which requires me to be there often and to travel every now and then (Australia is long way away from my home country, and very costly to travel).
In terms of gain/loss of taking this job:
Gains:
-Being close to my home country and handling the family issues that cant wait.
-Being in KSA I am sure I can find a better job, which I will never be able to find while here.
Losses:
-less money than my current job (though not a big difference, and offset by cost of travel from AUS)
-Not good schools for kids, and not a good lifestyle etc.
Adding to the losses that school year in Aus starts in February and ends before Christmas, which means kids may lose this school year when we travel.
I am very confused and cant make a decision! |
Given the nitaqat initiative, there's no guarantee you'll find a better job while in KSA, but if you do, it may be a hassle to transfer your iqama. Also, be aware that an exit/reentry visa for travel outside the Kingdom requires the approval of your employer.
Since your field is in engineering and not TEFL, why not look at other sources for jobs in the Gulf including those not related to teaching. Try sites like bayt.com, higheredjobs.com, chronicle.com and gulftalent.com. |

Is your visa with a limit of 90 days? If not used within 90 days, then it will expire and be cancelled automatically. |

I spoke to some people there and all said there is a good chance to find a better job while in KSA. The employer requires 2 months notice and no problem with moving Iqama. I am aware of the exit permit requirements and learned that Western Passports holders get multi-exit permits.
I tried to apply for non-academic field but it seems more difficult in the GCC countries than the academic ones. Among the 5 job offers I got only one was not in the academic field. |

yes it is. I am almost half way through the 90Days. Do you mean if the 90 days passed and the visa expires there will be no implications in the future should I found a job in KSA? |

THE university may have you blacklisted by the Jawazat or by the Ministry of Higher Education.
If your reeasons are simply to be near your country of origin I would say that you should NOT go to KSA but stay in Australia.

Does it mean they black-list me for any academic job in KSA or for any job regardless?
I would not shed tears if they black-list me, but the more important thing for me is the family issue back at home. |

That would be for any job requiring an employment visa, which would mean scratching the Kingdom off your countries-near-home list. |
