Hey all. I was recently offered a position there as lecturer and was offered a housing allowance in my salary. I initially thought housing would be included, but I was told that I would get help finding housing and I would be responsible for the monthly rent. Is this common or is this a recent change in policy? My understanding from blogs/forums and a couple people I've spoken to who worked there is that housing was provided, though those people all worked at the Foundation Institute, which I gather is different from CAS. Can anyone provide some insight and what it was like finding housing nearby? I was told that furnished university housing was available, but still at a cost. Thanks in advance!

Your contract sounds similar to mine, but I am in Buraimi. I was offered something similar at my university. Of course they helped by connecting us to one of the sleaziest realtors in town. Smile
My advice for housing is hold out and actually look for a place that you like. Get in a taxi, drive around, and visit all the realtors you can. From my experience each realtor has only a few properties to show. I probably talked with 5 or 6. The place we ended up taking my wife found. She drove around looking for signs that said for rent and we called them. It was stressful, but we like our place. If you are getting an apartment talk to your co-workers and ask them about their place and if there are apartments available.

Hope this is helpful.

I found out the policy changed so you pay your rent now. I also heard from a couple employees that they liked their accomodations. ey
