I am trying to arrange my VISA to work in Kazakhstan this summer. The Kazakh Embassy in London website is not working (temporarily unavailable?). When I phone them I am told "This number is temporarily out of order."
Is this due to national holidays in Kazakhstan? If so when will it open again? Could anyone give me a rough idea about how long the VISA process takes once I've received my invitation number.
It would be great if anyone had any information about this,
Thanks |

In such a situation, my first move would be to use a search engine and enter the following search term:
public holidays in kazakhstan 2013 |

Yes Tuesday 7th to Friday 10th inclusive were all public holidays, something to do with some big war 70 years ago that KZ barely played any part in.
When I got my visa support number (in Latvia) it took five working days. |

Kazakhstan was part of the Soviet Union. A lot of Russia's industry was relocated to Kazakhstan during the war, and the country sent five national divisions to join the Soviet war effort. They certainly didn't lose anything like the number of killed in countries like Russian and Ukraine (I think Belarus lost about 30% of its population), but Kazakhstan's fatalities amounted to about 310,000 military personnel and, remarkably, a similar number of civilians killed. |
