It would be nice if more of us on Dave's would take the time to post general warnings to newbies about some of the job offerings. Take in point, the ad for RTLHK
I just say there ad and have to say, BE CAREFUL!
They are offering HORRIBLE benefits, HORRIBLE salary and LONG work days...
I was a professor in HK for 350,000 HKD per year and STRUGGLED to live there. I only worked 20 hours per week, had 20 days of leave and summers off, but still left for greener pastures.
RTLHK is offering you a trap! You'd find it EO hard to live in HK on such a package if you are moving from abroad. SHAME on them for even offering such a deal to people.
You'd be foolish to relocate to HK for what these sharks are offering! |

OP did not give a link to the ad he ranted about; I assume it is this one -

I agree it's a cr@p offer, but there are language centres in town who will pay even less for you to work longer hours with half that annual leave and no airfare. Initial rental "assistance" being a salary advance seems an increasingly common scam.
So if you're young enough not to be scared by a killer schedule or living backpacker-style for a year, and desperately want to get a foot in the door in HK, you could do worse.
But for heaven's sake, insist on your rest days (often only 1.5 days in these places) being contiguous; do not expect them to include weekends.
And as they're only offering a 1990s salary, I'd also insist on the 1990s standard practice of 13th month salary at either Chinese New Year or contract completion. |

350,000 per year with 20 hour work weeks seems like a pretty good deal to me...Was it contracted work? |

It's all the same everywhere in Hong Kong.My contract was terminated from two jobs within a month because my face did'nt fit.I left a perfect job in the UK to go to there as well.So now I have to struggle to find a job in the UK. |
