How do you get a Z visa from Canada if you have a job offer? Is it true you have to travel all the way to the embassy itself? The website for the east coast directs me to the Montreal consulate which is only in French (which I don't speak). What do I hear about Visa Couriers that process it for you instead? Do you have to take a medical in Canada or just in China when you arrive? So, Canadians teaching English in China, please tell me the steps or hoops you jumped through to get one. Google gives contridictory and confusing answers.

More searching and I may have partially answered my own question. Have any of you fellow Canucks used this service? http://www.expressvisa.ca/

Can't help with the questions, as I've never done what you're asking, but based on your username that's one huge difference you'll notice on the ground in China relative to Korea.....very few Canadians.....I kid you not, of the 40 or so foreigners I know / work with in the PRC I finally met my first Canook on Sunday.....in Korea of 40 random foreigners at least 50% would have been your mob.

Thanks for offering what help you can. Kind of surprising to ehar that one. Any advice on how to apply from Korea? Think the Seoul embassy doesn't accept any Z or tourist visa applications.

I did have a point I guess, that this time around prepare yourself for a bit of a contrast regarding an information gap. Like if you go over to the Korean side of Daves here and ask about how to get something sent from some regional town in Manitoba, or banking processes back home you'll get pages of relevant answers. On the Chinese side it likely will be tumbleweeds, or at best people guessing, meaning you're going to have to work out a lot more stuff yourself - which *can* be half the fun, but is also half the pain in the ass.

I had to fly to Thailand to get my Z visa as also when I came a couple of years ago the 6 month ARC rule had just been implemented - which was a time consuming and costly annoyance. Thankfully offset by a couple of weeks of Thai food and pool time. Not sure though these days if the embassy in Seoul has eased up on applications. Good luck...where will you be working?

The embassies don't give out visas to foreigners. You have to go through their appointed travel agents. After talking to a few in Seoul and Busan, I found out that if I have the correct documentation that I could get a Z-Visa. I have less than six months on my ARC. My contract runs out in August. You need a medical check and papers from China to get a visa. There is a 60,000 won fee for Canadians. I had a Korean friend call the travel agency to double check the six month rule as well. You only need six months left on your ARC if you are getting a tourist visa. Hope this helps.

I was reading this information, that may help you out. It lays it all down for Canadians wanting to go to China.

Thanks guys. I'll look into these. Got an email recommending this for use of quick Z Visa processing from an official at Disney English for Canadians. http://mychinavisa.ca/

last time i was going to China, i just lined up at the Chinese Embassy in Toronto to get my Z visa. Then once in China, i had the medical check at a designated centre. I don't know much about courier services.

However, this time, I've been told that i need to get that thorough medical check in Canada AND China. my employer has told me that it *might* be possible to ask the Chinese officials to just accept my Canadian medical check solely, so that i don't have to undergo more x-rays than necessary, however that seems unlikely.

only suggestion i can give you is to make sure that you send all the documents you need, closely following the Chinese Embassy in Canada's instructions (as per their website). i found them really picky on things (i.e., photos) last time i was there.
