Hi everyone Very Happy

I've got a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education) for teaching Mathematics from the UK. I've taught Mathematics for several years in secondary schools in the UK. I'm just completing an online TEFL course.

Could I please ask:

Would I be able to get a ESL/EFL job (not Maths) in the Middle East based on the above certificates?

Thank you.

You should probably post on the ME forums below.
But I guess the answer will be that you might get a job - but it won't likely be a good one. The approaches/methods used to teach language are pretty significantly different from those used to teach maths in the students' native language.
Online TEFL certs aren't always accepted because they don't include supervised teaching practice.

Jobs in TEFL are generally a lot less well-paid than jobs teaching mathematics. The middle east can be an exception, as you clearly know, but I think you will want a language teaching course (4 weeks, CELTA or Trinity) if you want a job there. (And yes, off to Middle East board!)

I'm going back to England next year to finish my PGCE in Maths (I deferred for a year after a shocking first placement at a horrible school, I didn't expect to get shouted at in my first week in front of 5 other teachers by the HOD, it only got worse after being shouted at in front of my students by her and hten in the corridor.)

Any reason why you don't want to work in international schools? Is the competition high or have you not looked?

I was just interested myself in 3 years time looking to work abroad in an international school.
