I am trying to apply to the British Council and finding their notes/person spec confusing.
They say in the first columns
Behaviors
Making it happen (essential)>>>> Assessment stage
>>>>>>>>
Working together (essential) >>>>>>>>>>>Interview only
Skills and Knowledge >>>>> Assessment stage
>>>>>>>>>>>>> Short listing & interview
Understanding your learners
Classroom management
Subject knowledge
Course and lesson planning
Learning Technologies
I only have 500 words so should I just write about the skills and knowledge and ignore the Making it happen/Working together?
Thanks |

Anyone?
I keep looking at the spec and thinking well it seems to be saying that I should just detail the teaching behaviors .....
But then I think that seems daft otherwise they would have put it further down, wouldn't they? |

I'm not sure I'd want to apply for an ELT job that talked about 'behavio(u)rs'. Maybe the people in HR could give a bit of thought to their work - it might make the applications a lot more informative and easier to process. |

Augustus,
I think you should rename this thread, adding "British Council application" to the title--something along the lines of "Quick question about British Council application." You need to catch the attention of teachers who have worked for the BC, and so have sucessfully navigated the quirks of their application process. I know there are a number of former (and probably current) BC teachers on the forum. But they may not notice the thread with its current title.

Anyway, this is what I have ended up submitting, it my first application so not expecting to be successful tbh. I can see it by no means perfect but it is something and you never know they may see some potential and decide to offer me an interview. |
Augustus:
Since the ESL Cafe job discussion forums are read worldwide, if you're concerned about maintaining your anonymity, seriously rethink your decision to broadcast your personal response and comments specific to your British Council application on this forum. In other words, TMI.

I don't really see any harm in posting what I did but I have edited it regardless, just in case. |
