The reason that I'm posting is because I was wondering, how is the surf in Big Wave Bay? I will be moving to Hong Kong in June and staying on Lamma Island. I love to surf and heard this was the place to surf in Hong Kong. Any other expat surfer's in here? |

Nothing too big, but still a popular haunt for people to go and catch some waves..... |

First, which Big Wave Bay - Lantau, Sai Kung, or HK island?
As someone who grew up on the east coast of Australia, I confess to finding all of them rather yawn-worthy, although you'll find some swell as well as the regular chop and splash before/ during/ after typhoons that have blown in from the right direction. Cheung Sha (Lantau) is also worth a look at such times.
As beach and water quality goes, the Sai Kung Big Wave Bay beats the others hands down, but it's quite a hike in. The one on HK island is the most accessible, and has the most facilities. |
