I only missed two questions. Cool

How much do you know about Saudi Arabia? - An introduction to the history, politics, and religious affairs of The Kingdom

Dear nomad soul,

"Correct! (18 of 18 correct)"

Admittedly, though, I had to guess on two or three. And what the heck was that question about "which city do you see on the map?" I got very lucky on that one.

Regards,
John

Many poorly written questions with that "city on the map" being the most ridiculously incorrect. (not to mention the slowest loading system possible) Obviously there are two shown and both are "cities."

The one on the number of members of the "royal family" was also incorrect IMHO. The answer is the number of "princes" only - even though I got it correct.

I guessed well enough to miss only 3.

Dear VS,

The way I got it, I saw Jeddah's "dot" was "filled-in" whereas Riyadh's wasn't. So I figured that maybe it was a representation of when Riyadh was pretty much a small desert oasis while Jeddah was the "major metropolis."

Regards,
John

Only 67%. And the tower looks like a needle to me. I did much better on this http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Global-Issues/2012/0719/Quiz-How-much-do-you-know-about-terrorism/Question-1quiz.

I have heard it referred to as "the needle" by many... and I think that is the long time nickname. John?

Dear VS,

Yup, I also heard it called "The Needle" and even "The Can Opener." But I was a little surprised that "Hijacker's Training Academy" was offered - although that "nickname" was very popular among expats (especially Americans).

John

I hear 'Bottle Opener' frequently, but I thought the answer they wanted was what the locals call it and the locals say they definitely don't call it that and looked a bit perturbed, wanting to know what they can do to get the website to correct the 'preferred' answer.

I think the 'prefered answer' is politically motivated by the Christian Science Monitor! And was not 'scientifically' motivated as their title reflects.

tried this out on a class today. They got 13 out of 18... same as me and I've only been here a month!

They did NOT like the answer to the skyscraper question!

They need to learn about sets and subsets:

"6. How big is the Saudi royal family?"
"The Saudi royal family consists of approximately X direct male descendants of King Abdulaziz"

#8 suffers from the same problem.

#11 is weird. Map shows 2 cities but question says "Which city can you see on the map?" and both of the cities shown on the map are answer choices.

Some of the questions were very good, and depending on whether one can answer them or not, you can make statements such as "S/he knows (or doesn't know) about Saudi Arabia". Many, however, were useless trivia, and so, pointless in the grand scheme.

It looks as if the test was designed by people who used to write our exams in KSA !
