Welcome to Izmir! Izmir is a great city and there's lots to see and do. On Google you can find travel blogs about Izmir and clubs and associations. Izmir is a good base to do travelling to other nearby towns and sites. |

How is the teaching market in Izmir? Seems like a great place to live. |

The Izmir area is rich in history, there are many places of interest that you can see in a day or weekend excursion. Efes near Kuşadasi is a good place to start, the town of Kuş is also worth a visit, plenty of bars and one or two different restaurants, think Chinese and Indian cusine. Bergama to the north is ok and worth the travel about two hours by bus, car hire is relatively cheap but driving in this country does require some sixth sense. they basically expect you to know what they are going to do next, you will never understand why they do some of the things they do on the roads here, still makes the journey memorable.
Closer to home in the city itself is the Agora, nice, unlike the wine of the same name, the Kordon is ok for a stroll and a drink at the numerous bars and restaurants (sigh), yes a lot of eating and even more drinking goes on here. The beachs at Ceşme are some of the best in the country and you can just chill out there or guess what go to a bar and a restaurant, plenty of them but they are generally more expensive.
ıf you want more try to pm me and I can give you guided tours, walks in the park, party places to go or avoid, you know the stuff that only us locals know about but keep to ourselves.
Teaching jobs, well lets see, there are language schools a plenty, but most of them will pay peanuts and you will have to work illegally.
K12 schools are recruiting, they expect you to give blood and work all hours god sends, but you may just earn some decent cash and THEY WİLL do your paper work esp if you have experience, don't look like a refugee and are sober and shower and have some qualies. Unis are recruiting, especially İEU, they NEED foreigners to replace the ones they finished and those who left, State unis don't generally hire and the pay is crap anyway. |

Thanks for the info everyone ... I've been teaching a few kids from my home and writing content for websites ... I don't think I'll attach myself with a school ever again the work ethic is so bad & they are never straightfoward with you.
On a side note, my friend owns a vinyard & these wild pigs run down the hill into the vinyards & start eating like they've been starving forever lol ... His guys usually shoots them on site. This week he took one to a christian butcher & brought me the meat, but I'm VEGAN ... he didn't understand veganism. He told me, 'but it's Organic meat aren't you Vegan' ?? Anyone interested I can pass your number on to him & he can call you to come get some if you like. As I know it is a delicacy to some. |

Hi Sixthchild,
can you provide any information on how to apply to IEU in Izmir? I'd like to follow up on your advice about recruitment there, or another Uni in Izmir.
Thanks a lot,
Samisa |
