Hello everyone,
I was wondering if you could shed some light onto my situation. I've been working at a Chinese university for the past 4 semesters, I like it here and I'm settled but will shortly be leaving to pursue further education back home. It's my intention to return to China after I've completed my period of study. I know that when you leave a job you're meant to have a 'letter of release', but I'm unsure if this is only for when you exchange jobs with no gap between employment periods.
As I'll be out of the country for 1 year, do I still need a letter of release? I do plan on coming back to China.
Thanks |

You might as well have it; it can't hurt, it will serve as a reference. Technically, the school is required to give you a release letter.
Do you need it? Once again, TECHNICALLY yes, but..... |

Yes, you should get this.
It does not take long to produce. |

yes. get the release letter. download the form (search previous posts),
fill out most of it, give to FAO. needs two stamps.
this being china, laws can change. in the world of tomorrow, you just
might need a release letter even if returning.
you should also ask for a recommendation letter (in englsih). you
can write it, they can sign it.
all can be accomplished a month or two before the semester ends. |

The thing that made me question this is that my visa/residency permit/FEC will have expired by the time I will return to China.
Is this the form:

So when I return, I'll have to go through the whole medical/visa application process again... not looking forward to that! |

That is the correct form. I always ask for a letter in English as well. Make sure it has the red-ink stamp. |

Thats what I have to do. Never had a release letter as I return to the same employer. |
