Which of these are my cost and should I get reimbursed?

Should I pay for any of these, Z-visa, health permit , residence permit?

If I do should I get reimbursed?

That would depend on your agreement with your employer.

This. Can change from job to job and contract to contract so you can't really solidly rely on any answer you get here. The general default rule (with the exception of plane tix) is you pay for any expenses incurred outside China, and the employer pays for those inside China.

Z visa and medical check obtained in your home country will *likely* be your burden. Cost of FEC, residence permit, Chinese medical check etc. will be on your workplace.

Occasionally they will reimburse your "foreign" expenses but you'd need to read the contract or negotiate with the FAO regarding this.

Sorry, but there is no standard or legal obligation per SAFEA or any other group. Only you can negotiate with your potential employer what they will or will not pay for. Many employers today are more misers when it comes to even the smallest amounts of money incurred for things. I think the thing that is most widely done in China is that the school pays for the F.E.C. Otherwise, there is absolutely no rule whatsoever about the other things. This is something you should be discussing with your possible employer and not with the forum here.

The industry standard in the public sector is that a new employee will pay for everything they do in their home country and the employer will pay for everything they do here.

It all depends on the contract though.

Concerning the statement, "This is something you should be discussing with your possible employer and not with the forum here."

Sorry but I disagree, these forums are here to help, or at least attempt to clear up any questions having to do with a position.

Also, I have been to numerous sites that categorize by subject such as, "Contracts", "Housing", etc...for each of the different countries and each is a little different...so posting to a forum such as this will just provide more information I may bounce against those sites I have visited.

Any way thank you all again.

As has been said, it should be stated in your contract or (at least) agreed upon by you and your employer. I would further suggest that if it's NOT in the contract, then ... YOU'RE probably going to end up paying for it!

As far as my own experience is concerned: all three schools I have worked for since coming to the PRC in 2010 have paid for all of my visa and F.E.C. requirements. To be clear, I HAVE PAID inititially, but the schools have always re-imbursed me 100% for the money spent.

I have always paid for my own Health Check and Certificate. No re-imbursement on the H.C.

I've been in Suzhou for almost 3 years - my third contract here.

First school - I came over on an F visa. They got me the medical, FEC, and sent me to HK for a z visa. They paid everything except the original visa cost. I asked but didn't fight over it when the stalled on paying.

Second school - My RP ran out and there wasn't enough time to extend it. I went to the USA, got a a new f visa ( it was ok as I wasn't positive that I wanted to return to China then) came back to Suzhou and they processed all the docs and medical. They paid for everything including the trip to HK. Never asked them about the US issued visa fee - must have forgotten.

Current school - they got me a new RP and medical and fec - they paid for everything. PSB currently has my passport for a renewal of the rp for one year. They paid for it all and thankfully no new medical required.

Truthfully, I like visa runs to HK at school expense. It's a 2-3 day break from mainland.

I agree!!
If you get a view from the forum it is great backup for arguing the point when you do get to ask the question of your employer.
How many times of late have we had yet another:

Hi all,

Wow, great replies from those in the trenches!

I appreciate each and everyone of them.

These tidbits are a boon to those of us who have not dealt with these type of documents.

Please keep up the sound advice.

I will probably see if I can do the "state side stuff" and the organization handle the "local stuff" seems fair.
