Having an interview shortly for work in KSU and was wondering if any of you already there or with prior knowledge could give me some pointers-The job is with Aramco yet is sub contracted out to Al Falek-where are they located countrywise besides the major city where the HQ is-what kind of rep do they have and anything else would be helpful....if I get the job then I'll be travelling to ksu with wife and kid...who are fully expectant of an enclosed lifestyle ala gilded prison. Any recommendations on places would be appreciated. Cheers. or rather not. |

Most posts through contractors are single-status only. This is connected to the high turnover. Contractors dod not want family members around to complicate rapid departure when that day comes - as it will.
If you want family status go for a direct hire job with one of the better unis. |

Uh, here's a pointer: KSU in this neck of the woods is King Saud University. KSA is the country abbreviation.

Ask them how many hires they have who have been there for more than a year. |

@Scot... If you (or anyone) have specific illustrations of Al Falak/Al Hoty/Sraco/Haka or any other Aramco contractor screwing teachers over to the extent that before their year is up they do a runner then it would be better to share that with those with genuine queries rather than making unsubtantiated allusions. If you know for a fact that Al Falak currently has a high turnover among Aramco contracted teachers, can you give us the figures? And please make sure that, as per your post, you tie it at least in part to evidence that this has something to do with single contract status. Thanks.
@gandida, to sort the reality from the ranting in scot's postings, your salary is not going to enable you to provide international school education for your kid. It is not designed to. Well ,you might be able to afford it but it would eat a substantial portion of your salary. I have no kids so I don't have specifics. If you need school fees paying, then scot is right that you should consider KFUPM or other university positions. These come with better benefits and a much lower salary but overall if you have dependent children you'll be much better off.
It's irrelevant where Al Falak are based. It's Aramco locations that matter. they are all over the country. If you want a specific location, you must stipulate that at interview before you sign the offer from Al Falak.
PM me for more specifics if you want them. |

Gandida, You just go ahead and jump in the water. Don't come back and complain to us here.
This is not a court of law. I am just telling you to be wary of ALL contractors, including those who provide "hands" for Aramco.
I know people on direct hire who have been in post for 10 and even 20 years. I have NEVER come across anyone working for a contractor who is into their third year. |

And you've never met anyone who has lived in Punxsatawney, PA for more than three years but it doesn't mean it can't be done.
FYI, I work with tens of teachers who have worked for the whole range of contractors for three years plus. I presume Gandida would rather get their info from them than you.

Then stop setting yourself up as judge and arbiter on contractors.

At best, that's extremely patronising.
Scot, you provide zero current evidence of anyone being shafted by Aramco contractors. I'm sure Gandida would find any specific info you have very relevant, as would the rest of us.
No evidence? No scaremongering. Evidence? We're all ears.
Perhaps your time out of the kingdom is starting to show... |

Take no offence.
I am a bit of a newbie as well. But one thing sicklymans info is spot on. I wish more of sicklymans type were on this board, says how it is with zero BS.
Thanks SMAN. |
