I did a search on this forum to find out what is in Sohar
and here is what I found so far:

if I understand correctly there are 2 upscale hotels with nice gyms/spas ?
a new shopping mall called Safeer ?
a cinema (does it show new movies each week) ?

What about well-stocked pharmacies, clean/modern clinics/hospitals ?
A variety of restaurants ?

What else have I missed ?
Thanks!

Are you writing a travel book? You seem to be asking lifestyle questions about an awful lot of places around the Gulf. Laughing

Yup, I've been thinking the same thing. Frankly, The Lonely Planet, Trip Advisor, and Virtual Tourist are much better resources for your questions about spas, drug stores, beaches, yada yada. You'd only get bits and pieces of info (if any at all) from this site.

VS- Your comment is rude.

I need information about Sohar as I am considering a
position there.

Is there anyone out there who can tell me if the above is in Sohar ?

There was not much going on when I stayed in Sohar on my way up the coast from Muscat to go diving in Dibba. I watched some bullfighting, which in fact is just two bulls head-on pushing each other until the stronger one wins! Sumo-wrestling for bulls??

I stayed at the Sohar Beach Hotel which was good with a pool. I don't know about other hotels. Sohar is much cheaper than Muscat with a one-bedroomed flat in the city going for about 100 OR and a 3 bedroomed one for 250 OR.

The airport just outside Sohar is very much still under construction, but scheduled for opening in 2014/2015. Nobody knows yet whether all international flights will go from Sohar, but folk suspect only regional flights. People have to use the Seeb airport in Muscat at present then drive for about 2.5 hours.

In Sohar, the Lulu supermarket was destroyed by arsonists during the Arab Spring of February 2013, but the Safeer centre has a Carrefour.

No it wasn't. You previously suggested that you were going somewhere in Saudi. Then suddenly you're asking about Dibba... where there are no jobs that anyone knows of... and now you're asking about Sohar.

It wasn't rude... I was just curious. You never know what sort of people show up on this board and expect us to provide them with information about something that has nothing to do with teaching. I don't really even mind that, but I prefer that they be honest.

VS
(a search should bring up quite a few threads about Sohar)

VeileSentiment -Although I do not need to explain myself:

I have been interviewed for a job
in Saudi, Dibba and Sohar.....and need to make an informed decision
which is why I come and ask questions on this forum.

Go grab a glass of wine and chill.

Dear VS,

Well, maybe you'd better listen to him/her. He/She does seem to have "rude" down pretty well. Very Happy

Regards,
John

Her membership of the Gulf Misers Club will be compromised if she buys a Lonely Planet Guide. She obviously has not realised that she can go into a bookshop like Waterstons and look at a copy there. Or use a public library.

What jobs are there in Dibba?

It is certainly a small village (true of all three of the villages named Dibba) that has never come up for any discussion concerning employment.

I'd guess Diyar International Private School in Dibba Al Fujairah.

I think we are all crossing posts and countries! The OP has been posting on both the UAE and Oman boards about Dibba and Sohar to which I've been replying.

The confusion is that there are 3 Dibbas !

Dibba Al Fujairah, in Fujairah in the UAE
Dibba Al Hisn, in Sharjah in the UAE
Dibba Al Baya in Oman.

This private school, Diyar International Private School, which I've never seen, is in Dibba Al Fujairah which should be on the UAE board.

This post is about Sohar, which is in Oman. Are we all clear now ? !!
